Mastering the Essential Development Environment Setup for Developers

From installing the editor to initial Git configuration, you will personally build the entire development environment from start to finish. This is a practical, hands-on course where you will master terminal commands and folder structure principles, create your first project folder, and complete your first commit. In just one day, you will establish a stable development environment to be used throughout the entire 12-week program.

What you will gain after the course

  • Setting up an efficient code writing environment by installing an editor and utilizing 5 core shortcuts

  • Establishing a project management system applying 5 terminal commands and 3 folder structure principles

  • Successfully completed Git installation, initial setup, and the first commit.

Course Introduction

Where do people give up the most when they start studying development? It’s not difficult grammar or complex algorithms. It’s installing the programs.

The installation screen is in English, and several checkboxes appear, but you have no idea what they mean. You spend an hour on it, but nothing shows up on the screen. When red text pops up somewhere, you don't know what's happening, so you just close the window. From the next day on, you stop turning on your computer.

To be honest, this lecture is the most boring part of this series. No cool results will come out, and we'll only be setting up tools. That's why I prioritized the completion rate over fun when creating this lecture. I will go over everything in advance, including which items to check and why, where you might get stuck, and what to check first when you do.

We cover four things: the editor for writing code, the terminal for issuing commands, the folder structure for organizing files, and Git for keeping track of your work. We will learn only five terminal commands. If I teach you too many from the start, you'll get exhausted trying to memorize them all.

Finally, you will create a project folder yourself and make your first record with Git. The folder created here will be used as-is when you create your first web page in Lesson 6.

You just need to hang in there for today. You won't have to do this again because you'll be using this setup for the entire 12 weeks.

This will be especially helpful for these people

- Those who have tried studying development in the past but stopped at the installation stage

- Those who have completed the installation but aren't sure if it was done correctly

- Those who have been avoiding the black screen called the terminal because it felt overwhelming

- Those who want to break the habit of leaving files scattered all over their desktop

- Those who have heard the word "Git" many times but have never had it clearly explained to them

Hello, I'm Frank.

I am an infrastructure engineer who has been wrestling with servers for over 20 years. Starting with Linux server operations, I am now in charge of the cloud infrastructure for a large-scale payment service. My daily life involves migrating from data centers to AWS, managing hundreds of instances, and tracing the causes of failures in the early hours of the morning.

The reason I created this course is simple.

I often received questions like these from those around me: "I managed to connect to the server, but I don't know what to do next." "There are so many instance types; which one should I choose?" These are the exact same points where I got stuck at first. However, when I looked for resources, I found that most of them were written for people who already knew what they were doing.

So I decided to create the course I wish I had when I first started learning.

My lectures are based on three principles.

First, I help you understand rather than memorize. Instead of just listing commands, I explain why we use them in the first place.

Second, I boldly omit unnecessary content. I do not increase the volume by including information that is useless to beginners right now.

Third, I also talk about what doesn't work. Instead of just listing the pros, I clearly point out cases where it might not be a good fit. For someone who has to make decisions in the field, that is more important.

If you feel a sense of "Ah, I should start from here" after listening to the lecture, then my goal has been achieved.

Please feel free to leave any questions you may have at any time.
