The purpose of this lecture was to resolve the regret that if I had known about it in advance and developed it, I would have been able to see a wider range of things.
This is the first series of CAN lectures.
The CAN Specification contains a wealth of information, but I've compiled only the essentials for practical development. Rather than simply providing an academic overview of CAN, I've explored how it's used in real-world applications, how development works, and why it's important to use it .
I believe that lectures should convey content, but also be easy for students to understand.
The course begins with a big picture of the entire vehicle structure, then explores the concepts of CAN and its uses, drawing a rough sketch. Finally, the course concludes with a coloring exercise, demonstrating the application of CAN.


When you hear the term CAN, some of you may think of a tin can or the word CAN, which means 'can do'.
However, CAN communication is one of the representative communication methods in automobiles .
So what is CAN communication and why is it being applied to the automotive industry?

While CAN is well documented in the standard documentation, the amount of information is actually quite extensive. While basic information is well-organized on blogs and YouTube, the content is scattered throughout, making it difficult to find the necessary knowledge. Initially, I studied through blogs and CAN Spec documents, but the sheer volume was overwhelming and I couldn't imagine how actual development would proceed.
So, for those who are taking this course, I've concisely explained the content that is absolutely necessary for development , and structured it so that you can imagine in your head, 'Oh, so this is how development is done!'
You can learn about the real environment you are developing in using CAN communication.
Although the CAN Spec is very extensive, I will briefly explain the concepts necessary for development.
It will be easier to understand CAN because it is explained based on the overall structure of the car.

Because automotive components are so large, they are developed using tools rather than finished products. This lecture provides a general overview of the tools used and the development process.
CAN has various frames. It not only transmits data, but also uses frames appropriate for each situation, such as sending an error frame when an error occurs. The format for each frame has been configured to allow learning .

To understand how CAN communication is utilized in practice, it's essential to understand the concept of UDS . This lecture briefly covers UDS. (A follow-up lecture that covers UDS in detail is also planned.)
