Reasons why you still need to learn jQuery

Since its first appearance in 2006, jQuery has been a widely used JavaScript library among web developers. One of the main reasons for its popularity is that it increases development productivity by simplifying the selection and manipulation of HTML elements while ensuring compatibility across various web browsers.

These advantages of jQuery are reflected in its high usage rate across websites worldwide. For example, as of 2021, approximately 77.8% of the top 10 million websites were using jQuery.

As such, jQuery has established itself as a standard tool in web development for a long time. Therefore, learning jQuery is a great help in understanding and maintaining vast existing codebases. Furthermore, since many websites still use jQuery, mastering it allows you to utilize it effectively in various projects.

Of course, while modern frameworks and libraries like React and Vue.js are receiving a lot of attention lately, jQuery's simplicity and broad compatibility remain attractive factors. Therefore, as a web developer, learning jQuery will serve as an important foundation for understanding both past and present technologies.

Examples of websites utilizing jQuery

Samsung Electronics https://www.samsung.com/sec/

If you look at the head tag of the element section using the developer tools on the Samsung Electronics homepage, you can see that they are utilizing the jQuery library, slick (slideshow) library, swiper library, and masonry library.

Asiana Airlines - https://flyasiana.com/C/KR/KO/index

Asiana Airlines utilizes the jQuery and Swiper libraries, and since they handle dates frequently, they also use moment.js.

Binggrae - https://www.bing.co.kr/

In the case of the Binggrae site, libraries such as masonry and slick are being utilized. Scripts are categorized into common.js for common applications, and main or sub for scripts that function on each specific page.

Many other sites are also using jQuery to build and maintain websites.

Therefore, in this course, we will learn the basic syntax and representative functions of jQuery, as well as basic examples such as tabs and accordions. Additionally, we plan to study major professional libraries such as swiper js, masonry, and fullpage JS.

Introducing the main learning content.

Part A

Learn the basic syntax of jQuery.

From jQuery loading to the order of loading, you will learn the process. You will use jQuery to select elements, change the styles of the selected elements, and apply events to them.
