What you will learn!

  • Examples of portfolios that showcase problem-solving skills

  • Movie's actual portfolio materials

  • Practical tips for quickly creating a portfolio without much effort

  • An overview of designer employment and career change

hello,
12 years of experience as a product designer
This is Kang Younghwa 🙂

When I opened my eyes, I realized that I had already been a designer for 12 years.
As I've built a long career, I've been fortunate to have worked as someone who has consistently created digital products, achieved meaningful results, and solved problems.

  • Designer, coach, and miscellaneous person

  • (Former) Viva Republica-Toss Product Designer (Tools)

    • Lectures on internal/external tools such as Notion and Slack

    • Planning and conducting in-house lectures on business automation and efficiency

    • 20 lectures in front of 400 Toss employees

  • (Former) Thingsflow Designer

  • (Former) Spoqa Designer

There is a reason why I created this lecture.

Group coaching conducted last December

The reason I created this course was because I had a chance to meet with 130 coachees in a short period of time over the past two years.

Personally, I really enjoyed the experience of being able to help many people in a practical way. Through coaching, I learned from the coachees that I was able to work well as a designer because I had a lot of tacit knowledge.

In particular, among the things I repeatedly mentioned, there was a lot about employment and portfolios.

Over the course of four years, I reviewed hundreds of resumes. I had the opportunity to interview many excellent designers, and after going through almost 100 interviews, I think I developed an eye for what makes someone excellent.

I was amazed to see that you actually made it easier when I showed you how to make it quickly.

I think it's really hard to make a portfolio that demonstrates problem-solving skills compared to its importance. Some companies have a job title called Problem Solver, and all designer or PO/PM job postings mention the "problem-solving process," but I don't think there are many lectures that cover portfolios that demonstrate problem-solving skills from a practitioner's perspective.

I hope that many people will listen to this lecture, solve the assignments and self-coaching checklist, and gain more clarity about themselves and their projects.

I think if you've been in the field for more than a few years, you're probably solving someone's problem. If you can express that in your own words, I think you'll be able to create a successful portfolio.

And I want to help you with that 😁

You will learn about:

Movie director's portfolio materials revealed!

  • We will explain in detail the composition of your resume and portfolio so that you can study the materials by actually disassembling them.

  • I'll share three portfolio examples in text format.

  • Let me share with you the appealing points of your portfolio.

Other people's portfolio material

  • 4 Problem Solving Cases from Real Designer Portfolios

  • 3 Case Studies of Redesign Projects

  • You'll also see vivid examples of how other people analyze their work and projects.

Job/Career Change Do's and Don'ts Checklist

  • I'll show you how to create a portfolio very easily.

  • We'll explain in detail designer resumes, interviews, coffee chats, and job search strategies.

In addition, you can encounter various cases related to product design, service planning process, and portfolio.

This is part of the lecture content.
If you have any questions after watching the video,
I think you will find the lectures helpful.

Feedback 💫

I was so amazed and grateful that I was able to set my own standards for the direction of my portfolio in just 3 weeks ! What I realized while doing the assignment was that when organizing portfolio materials, it was faster and easier to organize the text according to the problem-solving format and then organize the visual materials ! I thought that I should write about all my work and tasks in a structured manner according to the problem-solving format, and I am trying to do it little by little. When I write it down, I can remember the details and it helps me organize the materials!😊😊

The feeling of being lost when I started as a beta tester seems to have been somewhat relieved after attending the last lecture. At first, I was full of questions like, "What should I do?", but by the end of the lecture, I was gradually finding answers like, "Oh, I guess I can do it this way." After defining the problem, setting up a hypothesis, and testing it repeatedly, I was able to feel myself growing and gaining confidence.

I was asked to write in detail about what I did in the project, my interests, the methodology I used, the Slack capture, and the people I worked with. As I looked back on my vague memories and organized them, it gave me an opportunity to think about which parts of this project I should emphasize and whether it was an attractive project. After organizing them, I was able to easily organize the order (priority) of the portfolio , and this project was very helpful in setting standards for which parts I should highlight as my strengths!

I think it's easier to understand when you see real-life examples than just listening to explanations . It was also nice to be able to look at other people's assignments and get feedback!

Those who only worked at agencies,

This is already my second time taking Younghwa's class. The lectures are so engaging that I can always focus and listen quickly! When making a portfolio, I often worry about what kind of content I should write, whether the content is lacking, and if so, what kind of content is lacking. Through this lecture, I was able to get a clue about how to demonstrate problem-solving skills, which are a hot topic these days, in my portfolio! Through the assignments given in class, it felt like a more detailed class because it felt like we were slowly looking back on our portfolios with Younghwa, rather than simply going through the class! I will diligently attend the remaining classes and work hard to create a shining portfolio :) Thank you for the lecture!!

This is my second time taking your lecture! It was so great to see so many examples in the lecture! I think I understand better when I understand through the actual examples you showed rather than just looking at the content. ㅎㅎ I think this lecture will help me a lot in organizing my portfolio. I will continue to revise my portfolio while looking at the lecture materials you shared!! And I really liked the process of thinking about what kind of designer is a good designer. I've always heard people tell me to think about what kind of designer I think is a good person, but I've never really put it into practice. I think I'll be able to use the method you taught me to continue to review my career in the future!

Hello! I added more cases after the beta lecture. What I focused on while making the lecture was to develop the ability to think on your own. I wanted to make it feel like the portfolio is connected to your career rather than ending with the portfolio itself. Thank you for understanding that. Thank you for the course review! Have a nice holiday :D
