I personally feel that the value of this lecture is more than 1 million won. I am sure that the content taught here is a must-take lecture for anyone aiming to become a digital circuit design engineer. The lecture content is very difficult, so it is very, very difficult to understand at first, but if you watch the lecture 3 or 4 times and analyze the provided code for several hours, you will feel that not only your RTL coding skills but also your understanding of semiconductor architecture is gradually increasing. If you want to see the architecture of the chip that is actually released as a product from a different perspective than you have seen so far, I highly recommend listening to this. (DMA was so hard to understand at first that I felt like I only looked at the code for dozens of hours..)

I was able to write a course review while listening to the lecture, so I came to write while listening. I work on the RF physical layer, and I happened to come across Xilinx's RFSoC. It has an embedded high-speed ADC that doesn't require PCB routing, PL, and CPU all in one chip... I couldn't help but use it. However, the AXI4-Stream interface between the ADC and PL and the AXI4 bus between the PL and PS were the entry barriers. Since I can barely do Verilog and don't have much experience in semiconductors, I didn't know where to learn, so I studied the concepts while going around blogs, but I didn't feel like I had enough to write code. I was halfway giving up, thinking I had no choice but to head to the bare ground by reading the official documentation, but didn't you think that Mr. Mabbin gave me exactly what I was looking for in Season 2? Therefore, I will bow a hundred times to Mr. Mabbin. Thank you very much.

Hello, I am an electronic engineering student who has been listening to Verilog HDL season 1 and is about to graduate. As sunchoi mentioned below, I think this lecture is worth 1 million won or more. (I think it is a value that undergraduate students cannot judge...) I often hear that AMBA AXI is very important at school, but I think it is limited to cover it within the given class time. However, I was able to grow by designing I/F through the lecture and seeing the process of uploading it to an actual FPGA. I think that a lecture costing more than 300,000 won would be a burden to students. If you take the lecture, you will think that this lecture is the minimum amount of money you need to prepare for the lecture. I highly recommend it. If undergraduate students take this lecture, I personally think that it would be better to take the two subjects of Verilog grammar and microprocessor. I always take care of my health and I look forward to the next lecture. Thank you.

What you will gain after the course

  • Practical AMBA AXI Design Experience for Semiconductor Design Engineers

  • Theory and Practice of AXI4-Lite, AXI4-Stream, and AXI4

Practical Verilog HDL from a Non-Memory Design Engineer:
Mastering AMBA AXI4!

If you are a professional in non-memory design,
AMBA is a must-know

Hello! This is Matbi from Design Self-Study.
Following Season 1, this course covers AMBA (Advanced Microcontroller Bus Architecture), which is essential knowledge for design, verification, and system architects., một kiến thức bắt buộc dành cho các kỹ sư thiết kế/kiểm thử/kiến trúc hệ thống.

I have included the practical know-how I experienced firsthand while designing AMBA-related systems in the industry.

There are over 10,000 lines of practice code to be provided to the students.

I promise a lecture quality unique to Design Self-Study that no one else can replicate.

This is not a beginner's course!

This course aims for a knowledge level equivalent to 4–8 years of experience in non-memory design.

I highly recommend this course for the following people.

  • 1️⃣ Those who are interested in design and have the will to excel (Most important)
  • 2️⃣ Master's or PhD students in the semiconductor field
  • 3️⃣ Design professionals who want to gain experience with AMBA

If you take this course, you will
develop proper skills in non-memory design.

  • You can gain the fundamental knowledge required of a non-memory design engineer and build confidence in design.
  • You can learn the essential knowledge required in real-world practice..
  • If you master this, you can acquire design knowledge equivalent to or greater than that of an engineer with 4 to 8 years of experience.
  • You can design and verify your own HW IP.
  • This knowledge will be actively utilized in the various project lectures by Design Self-Study Matbi that follow.

Why Design Self-Study courses are different 📌

Don't learn halfway!
I am passing on the actual know-how of a working professional.

I am a professional currently working in design. I created these lectures after personally designing every single component myself. This is different from courses that only cover superficial knowledge or pretend to know the subject.

Don't learn halfway. I will clearly deliver the knowledge truly necessary for practical design engineering.

Because your every minute and second is precious,
Design Self-Study edits every class personally.

Does the video running time feel shorter compared to other lectures? I do not include unnecessary time in the lectures, such as tool loading times, pauses during explanations, or awkward jokes.

You can master all the theory and practice codes I provide with a much more substantial and efficient pace compared to other lectures.

So that you can thoroughly practice
everything you need to study.

High-quality Verilog HDL practice code directly designed by an industry professional

  • AXI4-Lite / AXI4-Stream / AXI4-Standard
  • It covers all the theory and practice personally created by Matbi.
  • FPGA synthesis is possible.

AXI VIP environment that can only be used in the industry

  • Experience the powerful AXI VIP environment for yourself.
  • We use Vivado Xsim, a proven free simulation tool.
  • I even uploaded it to the FPGA and verified its operation.
  • The project files used are also provided.

If you become a non-memory design engineer in Korea 💪

Korea is a powerhouse in memory semiconductors, but not in non-memory semiconductors. Because of this, the government and corporations are investing heavily, and there are many design companies. Try searching for the keyword "Verilog HDL" on job recruitment sites. Many companies around the world are looking for semiconductor design engineers. Is there a company you want to join? Try searching for that company's salary.

Companies related to non-memory design rank in the top 1% of average annual salaries for domestic corporations. It is a profession that requires as much study as it pays and is not an easy path, but it is a field where a solid future awaits.

See you in the field 🖐

Thank you sincerely for reading this far.
I am confident that you will all become excellent design engineers.

The choice is yours.
I look forward to meeting you in the field.
Thank you. Best regards, Matbi.

For the theoretical part, the content can be found in the AMBA spec or Xilinx Reference manual, but when it comes to actual implementation, having reference implementations to refer to and knowing whether unknown features exist (especially in protoinst or VIP utilization) makes a huge difference, and this was very practically helpful.

    • semisgdh
      Instructor

hjKim, thank you for leaving such a thoughtful course review. As you mentioned, there are parts that are difficult to grasp with just the reference manual, and I'm glad that encountering the implementations through hands-on practice was helpful. I feel especially rewarded that you found even the detailed features like protoinst and VIP utilization meaningful. I encourage you to connect what you've learned to your actual projects as well!

2025/06/15/Sun 08:04 Thank you for creating good lectures. I was always curious about how a CPU works, but after listening to all four lectures you created, I learned how it operates. I also understood Verilog much better and learned about AXI4. If you upload lectures again next time, I will listen to them right away. Thank you.

    • semisgdh
      Instructor

Wow... I am truly grateful and touched that you listened to all 4 lectures! To those who were curious about how the CPU actually works within a system, I feel a great sense of reward knowing it was helpful and that the planning intention of this lecture was well conveyed. Since you've understood everything up to Verilog and AXI4, you've likely developed the core skills to immediately apply them in real-world situations :) For the next lecture as well, I will prepare with even better content and meet you again. Thank you once again!
