Investigating the HYBE–Min Hee-jin–NewJeans Dispute with Claude — An AI Research Guide to Checking Court Rulings, Filings, and National Assembly Bills

This is the actual process of taking the HYBE–Min Hee-jin–NewJeans dispute, previously seen only in the news, assigning Claude to investigate it along four separate lines, and organizing “court rulings” and “claims” into a single table. When I encounter unfamiliar terms, I ask about them using the article’s exact wording and translate them into numbers; when articles report different judgment amounts, I check the case numbers and original texts. At the end, I compare seven contract-related lessons from the case against my own contract (as of October 23, 2026).

What you will gain after the course

  • How to understand why different agencies viewed the same case differently by asking: who made the judgment, when, and what does the original text say?

  • A prompt for assigning Claude research across four tracks, plus six lines of rules to append after all the research is done

  • A step-by-step guide to asking about court deposits, referrals to prosecutors, injunctions, provisional attachments, and put options exactly as they’re described in news articles, understanding them in numerical terms, and verifying the figures that differ from article to article using case numbers, court rulings, and electronic disclosures.

  • How to Find the 7 Clauses Relevant to This Case in Employment, Freelance, and Creator Contracts (Employment Status · Penalty Calculation · Grounds for Termination · Injunctive Relief · Non-Compete · Equity and Control · Rights to Names and Work Product)

There are plenty of articles, but
if you’re not sure what’s true.

The dispute surrounding HYBE, CEO Min Hee-jin, and NewJeans has resulted in more than ten lawsuits and investigations over the past two and a half years. I couldn’t make sense of it just by reading the articles, either.
So I divided up the research with Claude and summarized everything in a single table in one day. I’ll show you exactly how I made that table. You can follow along even if you don’t know the law.

The finished product: an at-a-glance table

As of 2026-10-23

On the left are the questions people are most curious about; on the right are the answers as of that point in time. Each answer is labeled with who made the decision.

How many members does NewJeans have now?

Three members are confirmed to be under ADOR: Haerin, Hyein, and Hanni. Minji is discussing a return, and ADOR notified Danielle that her contract was terminated (2025-12-29).

Company announcement

What is the exclusive contract lawsuit between NewJeans and ADOR about?

ADOR won at trial (2025-10-30), and the ruling became final without an appeal.

Court ruling

What is the shareholder agreement lawsuit between CEO Min Hee-jin and HYBE about?

Min Hee-jin’s side won in the first trial (2026-02-12), and the put option payment is worth 25.5 billion won. HYBE appealed, and the appeal is ongoing.

Court rulingin progress

What about the plagiarism allegations against ILLIT?

The civil court considered this an expression of opinion and found that it did not breach the contract (2026-02). The police referred the case to prosecutors on charges of defamation and obstruction of business (2026-10-01). Whether to indict has not yet been determined.

Court rulingInvestigative findings

What about CEO Min Hee-jin now?

At the time, she was the CEO of ADOR; she is now the CEO of a company called OK Records.

News coverage

What is ADOR’s revenue?

It fell from 111.2 billion won in 2024 to 29.6 billion won in 2025.

Disclosure

Behind this table are supporting sources: judgment case numbers, original electronic disclosures, and 25 bills from the National Assembly.

If you have questions like these, listen in.

If the court and the police saw it differently, then one of them must be wrong, right?

If it says the case was referred to prosecutors, does that mean it’s going to trial now?

If it’s the same ruling but different articles report different amounts, which one is correct?

Does the same apply to me as a freelancer?

The answers are explained one by one in Lessons 2, 4, 5, and 6.

What You’ll Do in 6 Lessons

1

Start with the completed table: how many members NewJeans has now, and how the outcomes differed across lawsuits.

2

Why the civil court and police viewed the same statement differently: they were judging different things. We also look at conflicting figures, such as 25.5 billion and 22.5 billion.

3

A prompt and six lines of rules that divide the research among four areas: people, lawsuits and investigations, activities and contracts, and numbers.

4

We ask about court deposits, referrals to prosecution, injunctions, provisional attachments, and put options using the exact wording of the article. We calculate the put-option amount ourselves by plugging the numbers into the formula in the contract.

5

I look up the case numbers and verify the figures against the original sources—including electronic disclosures, bills introduced in the National Assembly, and cases found by running the same prompt once more.

6

I apply the seven contract-related lessons from this case to employment, freelance, and creator contracts. The final section is a three-question quiz.

What I Asked Claude to Do, and What I Did Myself

What Claude did

Run four investigations simultaneously (finished within 12 minutes)
Find discrepancies among the investigations (six places)
Retrieve 25 National Assembly amendment bills and read the 22 with full text available

What I did

Signing up for the National Assembly’s public data service
Paying to access court rulings (₩1,000 per case)

I signed up for access to the National Assembly data; Claude downloaded and read it.

What This Course Is Not

This is not legal advice. It covers how to read public reports on court rulings, disclosures, and National Assembly materials.

We do not decide who is right. We distinguish between the decisions of courts and investigative agencies, the claims made by each side, and media reports.

Most of the lawsuits are still ongoing. All facts in the lecture are current as of October 23, 2026, and we’ll update the summary in the online practice room when the next ruling comes out.

No actual photos of people, logos, or album images were used. People are depicted only as name boxes. The lecture audio is AI-generated speech (TTS).
