🗒 Course Introduction

(Please note that this lecture does not provide instructor-led answers.)

Autodesk Maya has established itself as a standard 3D modeling software used in the film, animation, and commercial industries.
It is an industry leader, especially in the animation field, and also fully meets the needs of users in the fields of modeling, special effects, and rendering.

This course is designed for beginners to 3D graphics and will help you learn basic 3D graphics concepts from the perspective of using Maya.

PART 1: Rendering 1

  • In this course, you will learn the overall workflow of Maya rendering, focusing on the Arnold Renderer, Maya's default rendering system.
We'll first learn the basic workflow, then delve into the fundamental concepts and features used in lighting, shading, and rendering.
Afterwards, we will go through a simple rendering-output task to reorganize the entire work, and learn how to work with the exr output file with the Cryptomatte pass in Photoshop.
  1. Basic workflow of Arnold renderer
  2. Basic concepts and functions of lighting and shading
  3. Simple operation using exr files with Cryptomatte AOV passes

PART 2: Rendering 2

  • In this course, you will experiment with the lighting types available in the Arnold Renderer and learn about the roles and functions of various nodes for hypershade.
We will experiment with IES file-based lights, along with Maya's default lights, and a physical sky with physical realism.
In particular, we will focus on how to work with Hypershade, Maya's basic material editing system, and the specific roles and visual characteristics of utility nodes that help with shading tasks such as color calculations, color correction, facing ratio, and curvature used in various shading tasks.
  1. Basic use of Maya Light and Arnold Light
  2. How to create and edit materials using Hypershade
  3. Use of multiple utility nodes for shading tasks
