Hello everyone. This is Jeong Chae-sang 🙂

I 've been a developer in the broad sense of the word for over 25 years . I started as a junior engineer at a Korean venture company, then worked at a global company called Telecar and the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI). After joining Google in 2007, I worked at both Google headquarters in Korea and the US for about 13 years . I started as a software engineer and later served as a tech lead and people manager at Google .

Afterwards, I worked at Samsung Semiconductor Research Institute in the U.S., and since 2022, I have been working as a senior manager at Banksalad in Korea as a technical director , and I have also taught students at KAIST Graduate School of Management, and I continue to play various roles in the field.

Among my many experiences, in this lecture, I'll share the regrets I had during my junior years, as well as the positive and rewarding memories I've found, from the perspectives I've learned and experienced while serving as a manager. While I didn't see it clearly when I was running at full speed, I've compiled this content around stories I wish I'd heard from people around me back then.

I think I've become a junior developer, but what else can I do?

Entering

I enjoyed the experience of working with colleagues who were more accomplished than I was, achieving meaningful results. While being limited to a developer role was a bit uncomfortable, the experience of working together to create the things I wanted became a fond memory over time. As a result, I gained recognition from those around me, and before I knew it, I was a senior developer, approaching the level of success my senior colleagues once envied. I used to think that just being good at coding was enough, but I learned much later that success requires much more than just coding, and that I needed to collaborate with others.

What are some of the big themes?

(1) Let's achieve results

Let's talk about "performance," the first crucial element in growing as a senior developer. We'll discuss understanding organizational expectations, completing and iterating on projects, gaining trust, and establishing a strong presence within the organization.

(2) Let's increase our influence

Once you've achieved a certain level of success, you might be wondering what to do next. We'll talk about ways to take on a role and increase your influence.

(3) Let's communicate

The most important thing at work is communication. From a senior developer's perspective, we'll discuss how to effectively communicate with your manager, fellow team members, and other team members.

(4) Let's develop good habits

What are some good habits for a senior developer to have?
We'll talk about how to organize/record your own career and update your resume.

How did you put the content together?

Having worked with many people in the field for over 25 years as a developer and manager, I've gathered together what, beyond coding, has helped them grow into senior developers. I'm thinking of developers and junior developers who are striving for more than just personal skill development, and I wish someone had told me this when I was running forward. I've also included memories from my own time as a developer, the things my hard-working friends needed as managers, and the memories I wasn't able to provide.

I recommend this to these people!

Will taking this course make a difference?

I hope you can mentally prepare for the experiences you're experiencing now or will experience in the future. And I hope you won't hesitate to muster up a little more courage. I hope you gain the confidence to try new things and explore new endeavors beyond coding. I encourage my juniors who are proactively defining and solving problems. I hope this warm feeling will be conveyed.

I have a question!

Q. I purchased a course. Where can I find the mentoring coupon?

If the course progresses to 100%, a coupon for one 1:1 mentoring session will be issued .
Please check whether mentoring has been issued through ‘KakaoTalk notification’ .

Q. Where can I apply for mentoring?

You can apply for the mentoring voucher by applying it to the ‘Available Coupons’ in the mentoring link .

Q. Is there an expiration date for mentoring coupons?

The mentoring coupon is valid for [1 year].
When the progress rate reaches 100%, a mentoring coupon will be issued, and the coupon will be valid for one year from the date of issuance.

Pros - It was a content that had a lot of real-life experience. - It was the best value for money because it included mentoring! Cons: - I wish there were more specific examples from the field. - I wish the PPT was a bit more user-friendly. It felt like a personal notebook.
