Learn sound programming used in Unreal To become a true game sound designer! 🎮
Am I really an 'Unreal user'?
If you're looking for a job as a game sound designer, you'll likely see "Unreal proficiency" listed as a preferred qualification. However, you may be unsure of how much Unreal you need to be "proficient," and the lack of a proper Unreal sound curriculum can be frustrating. This course is for those who find this frustrating.
Having worked as a game sound developer for over 20 years, I've developed a curriculum that covers essential skills from basic to advanced. After taking this course, you'll be ready to become a true game sound expert.
Are you having these concerns?
😭
I'm applying for a job I don't know why it keeps falling.
🥲
It says in the preferential terms that you are capable of Unreal. I don't know where or how to learn.
🤨
If you want to get a job, you need to know Unreal to some extent. I don't know if I should study
😯
I'm developing a one-person game and I need to improve the sound I want to know and learn how to make it.
[Special features of this course]
There is no other lecture that provides a systematic curriculum from basic to advanced level on Unreal Sound, the first in Korea and the world.
A sound director who is currently developing game sound creates lectures using techniques and examples used in current practice, not in the past, to teach skills that can be applied immediately in real-world situations .
Learn in 3 sections Unreal Basics Course 📚
Section 0. Getting Started
Warm up! Prepare yourself mentally by installing Unreal, looking around, and attending lectures.
Section 1. Basic Course
Learn and utilize the functions of sound cues, including creating sound classes and sound cues, which are the basics of Unreal Sound.
Section 2. Intermediate Course
Learn how to apply sound to actual games, including BGM, animation, UI, ambient sound, and cinematic direction.
Expected Questions Q&A 💬
Q. I have never used Unreal before. Can I still take the course?
Yes, the course curriculum is organized in order of difficulty, starting with the Unreal installation. If you follow along step by step from the beginning, you'll be able to follow along without much difficulty.Just give it a try! It's not that hard once you actually try it, so don't be afraid!
Q. Why should I learn Unreal to become a game sound designer?
Companies hiring sound developers are often working on large-scale games or projects, and most large-scale game projects are developed using Unreal Engine these days. Therefore, learning Unreal Engine is essential for employment.
If you're applying to a company that develops with Unity, you don't need to learn Unreal. However, if you're looking to move to a larger company, you'll eventually need to learn Unreal. That means, as you level up, you'll eventually encounter Unreal, so it's a good idea to learn it while you're young, right?
As you'll see from the course curriculum, a sound designer is someone who applies, operates, and programs sound in games, as well as manages and registers sound data. While they're called sound designers in name only, in practice, most work is done in Unreal Engine, rather than a DAW.
Q. Will taking this course help me get a job at a gaming company?
Yes, 100%, 1000%, 10000%.Of course, this assumes you have the skills to create game sounds.
If you have similar sound design skills, who would have a better job prospect: someone who took this course and learned Unreal skills, or someone who didn't?
On the other hand, if you were the CEO of a company and offered the same salary, who would you rather work with: someone with similar sound design skills who only knows how to do sound design, or someone who can freely direct and express sounds with Unreal and can implement sound work that all the planning programmers in the company would have to do on their own, and who can solve technical problems to enrich the sound expression in Unreal?
📌 Things to note before taking the course
This course isn't about sound design, which involves adding sound to video. It's for those preparing for employment who already know sound design but have no idea how to use Unreal, or those developing solo games who don't know how to process and apply sound.
Practice environment
Operating System and Version (OS): Windows, macOS
A PC environment with specifications that allow Unreal Engine 5 to run smoothly.

Who is this course right for?
Game Sound Design/Developer/Planning Aspirant
For those who want to know about Unreal Sound features
I'm in charge of sound while making a game, and I took the beginner's course to reinforce the basics. It was a great help because it explained in detail the parts and processes that I only knew fragmentarily. The beginner's course focuses on utilizing sound cues, and I think that this alone is enough to use most game engine sounds. I'm really looking forward to the advanced course because I think I'll be able to learn more about metasound and practical tips and know-how. There are almost no lectures on Unreal Engine sound, especially metasound, in the world, so it's great that I can hear it in such detail in Korean. I would like to express my gratitude to the instructor.
When you actually deal with Unreal Engine and do sound interaction programming, it's exciting and fun to apply it in an actual game and see the sound come out the way you want. If you enjoyed it, it seems like it's a good fit for you~ Keep studying hard and if you have any questions, feel free to ask and I'll answer them~
The class was really good. I searched for things I needed on YouTube every time, but there were things I didn't understand and had questions about. I think you explained the basics well in a sequential manner. I will also listen to the intermediate and advanced classes diligently :)
If you follow the intermediate and advanced courses in order, you will be able to learn how game sound is produced, the overall flow, and production methods. Starting from the intermediate and advanced courses, metasound and blueprints will appear, so it may be a bit difficult, but if you follow along and understand the overall flow, you will be able to do it. If you have any questions while listening to the lecture, please feel free to ask questions at any time~
At first, I just watched the video, and the second time, I practiced by following along. As expected, I learned things I didn't know by doing it myself. It seems that I just need to follow the lecture well. It was good that you mainly taught things that are actually used a lot. For example, the empirical know-how, such as the Follow function that follows objects with sound, was also helpful.
You've seen it twice, so you're really passionate~ There are more game sound techniques and know-hows in the intermediate and advanced courses, so I'll be rooting for you to finish it~~ ^^
