Introduction

I started game development out of pure curiosity to study hacking...
and as time passed, I have somehow become a 10th-year game developer.
"When will I ever finish making a game at this rate?"
Starting from basic syntax that makes you sigh,
to gradually building my own game world.
And the sense of pride when seeing many players connect to that world.
The more I study, the more I cannot escape the charm of MMORPGs.
I hope you can feel the same excitement that I felt.

More

AI is not the 'future' of the game industry, but the 'present'

'Magical Girl Kawaii Lovely Zyun Kyun' by ReLU Games under KRAFTON

An innovative example where AI technology is utilized throughout the entire game development process, enabling faster and more creative gameplay experiences.

A world in chaos

An era where anyone can create products with the help of AI.
The gap between individuals and companies is gradually narrowing,
and as companies are becoming extremely reluctant to hire,
employment may no longer be guaranteed in the future.

A shift in thinking

But if anyone can create products through AI,
is there really a reason to go to a company?
If you can earn enough money even outside of a company,
your options will expand, and true freedom in life will finally arrive.

- University students worried about not being able to find a job.
- Job seekers in their 30s worried about employment due to their age.
- Office workers who are currently employed but worried about life after retirement.
- FIRE movement followers who want to achieve financial freedom through side projects.

Beyond that, anyone without exception should take an interest in the AI craze and start creating their own products.

*The curriculum is not 100% finalized and some content may change.

If you can create an entire game with AI,
an unbelievable strategy of churning out games like a factory
becomes possible.
Famous game companies have a minimum quality standard they must maintain to save face,
but indie game developers have no such constraints.
While large corporations decide on a game first and then try to use AI to help,
we take the opposite approach: we decide on a game based on the current level of AI development and challenge ourselves to monetize it.

Perhaps the AI era is actually a more advantageous situation for indie game developers.

Key Features of This Challenge

✔️ A curriculum focused on
releasing a game, rather than studying specific fields like coding or art.

✔️ Develop by utilizing AI
in every possible process.

✔️ Focus on developing games that are guaranteed to be
monetizable.

✔️ Select games that can be created
based on the current level of AI development.

Since AI does everything anyway,
how is it any different from taking on the challenge alone?

However, no matter how much you utilize AI, releasing a game as a solo developer
requires knowledge in various fields such as business, planning, art, and technology.
If you lack knowledge in even one area, it is difficult to conclude how to utilize AI to release a game.
On the other hand, studying every field yourself is a
huge waste of time because there are no books or lectures that cover exactly what you need.
That is why Rookiss will serve as your guide for solo game releases in this challenge.
Design your future according to the game genres and directions personally selected by Rookiss!

A new paradigm for AX monetization

There are many lectures covering monetization through AX, but
most show the process of turning an idea into a product.
However, products that anyone can create in the exact same way have already lost their commercial value.
Then, what should you do to create "your own product"?

During the challenge, Rookiss will produce at least two AI-based games,
and demonstrate the process by taking on the actual launch, marketing, and monetization together.
Students will be guided to modify ideas, concepts, and resources from the sample games created in the challenge lectures,
ensuring they launch their own original game no matter what.

This challenge is neither a lecture for "learning a specific technology" nor is it a lecture for "creating a portfolio."
It is closer to "vision sharing and tutoring for solo game development and launching."

AI tools are evolving at an incredibly fast pace, with new ones being released every month.
Relying on just one specific tool is difficult because each has its own pros and cons depending on the genre or field,
and it consumes too much time and resources for an individual to pay for and test every single tool.
Even if you study them that way, it’s hard to keep up when new AI tools emerge just a month later.

At Rookiss, because we operate as a team of five or more,
we pay for and test all the tools ourselves,
and select the most suitable AI tools for developing that specific genre at this point in time
to conduct our lectures.
We structure the curriculum so that development is possible using only one or two tools by the time the actual challenge begins,
minimizing the burden of tool subscription costs.

Planning

Even if you lack confidence because your ideas don't feel original,
now, just by providing a topic, AI will creatively suggest ideas for you.

Art

If you felt frustrated because you have no talent for design and the assets purchased from asset stores were of mediocre quality,
now you can extract assets in the exact form you want using AI prompts to suit your taste.

Programming

Even if you haven't studied for long and struggle with application,
now you can simply analyze and modify the code generated by AI.

The core of the AI era is <not studying to take on a challenge, but studying while taking on a challenge>.

Our first goal is
"1 Month = 1 Game Release".

To maximize long-term learning and growth,
we do not use the same genre or technology twice.

The Rookiss team will take the lead by setting an example.

I will prove that we are in an era where releasing sample games created from lecture content and
releasing and monetizing solo games using AI technology is
entirely possible.
Join us on this journey and take on the challenge together!

Second,
learn the entire game development process, release it, and monetize it.

Business - Planning - Art - Programming - QA - PM

The goal is to study all fields evenly to generate game revenue
and achieve economic independence.

Proceed with all fields with the help of AI,
and cultivate the ability to launch with zero capital in the long term.

🗓 Live Schedule

🎥 Review Lecture

  • Recorded videos will be uploaded immediately after the live session.

The first topic selected is Clicker Games.

The reason is clear.

[1] 2D game resource extraction techniques serve as the foundation for all AI resource technologies.
[2] You can launch your own game simply by swapping the story, resources, or concept.
[3] There are numerous games that have achieved tremendous results despite their relatively simple production difficulty.

Business - Planning - Art - Programming - QA—we decided this was the most suitable way to experience the AI-based launch cycle
without any pressure!

What is a clicker game?

As the name suggests, it is a very simple game where 'clicking' the screen is almost everything!
It allows players to experience the fun of exponential growth by collecting currency through repetitive clicks to upgrade, and adding 'idle' elements where resources gradually accumulate automatically.

A representative example of a clicker game is 'Cookie Clicker'

Q1. I am aspiring to work at a game company; what can I gain from this?

Game development roles are broadly divided into planning, art, and programming, and more specifically include business and QA.
However, with the emergence of AI, the boundaries between traditional roles are collapsing.
Planners who only write design documents, modelers who only do modeling, and programmers who code passively.
It is no coincidence that none of these individuals are finding employment.

Either become a talent with overwhelming skills that place you in the top 1%,
or if that is difficult, you must understand the overall game development process
and become a <game developer> who can create a product entirely on your own with the help of AI.

Participating in a bootcamp even once will give you
an understanding of game development and a taste of each role,
which will be very helpful in deciding on and understanding various career paths.

Ironically, if you continue solo game development to acquire these skills,
after some time, your games will accumulate and start generating revenue.
Then, employment will no longer be a necessity,
but rather a threshold you cross once in your life to achieve a milestone.

Q2. Is the theme of the bootcamp the same every month?

The bootcamp recruits new participants every month and runs for one month.
While recruitment and sessions are repeated over the long term, the exact same topic is never covered twice.
Even within simple topics, there are many areas worth researching,
and when the topic changes, new challenges and solutions arise.

However, all content proceeds under the assumption that you have no prior knowledge,
and it is not necessary to have participated in a previous cohort's challenge to follow the next set of content.

As you consider business, planning, art, and programming elements while switching between genres,
your game development skills will steadily build up.
Once you come up with your own idea and re-extract only the art resources using AI,
you will soon be able to release your own original game.
Ideally, make it your goal to complete <your own game> as a result of the bootcamp!

Q3. Is the game development done with Unity or Unreal?

Currently, Unity is more AI-friendly, so Unity is the main focus.
However, we also plan to conduct sessions based on Unreal Engine Blueprints periodically.

Q4. I really x100 have no knowledge at all; will I be okay?

Yes, it's perfectly fine!
This bootcamp does not require any prior knowledge.
Starting from an understanding of the game development process and roles,
we will teach you all the knowledge you need to develop a game.

Q5. Will this also be released as an online course on Inflearn in the future?

No.
While the situation may change in the future, there are currently no plans to release an online course.
AI is evolving so rapidly that new technologies emerge every month.
We believe that the most up-to-date form of instruction is the most suitable,
so we plan to focus on releasing challenge-based courses rather than traditional online lectures in the future.

Q6. Using Generative AI vs. Purchasing Assets for Game Development. What is the difference between the two?

Even if the results look similar, their value is completely different.
Purchasing assets is a way of indirectly collaborating with people and the industry.
If you can create games using AI, you become able to churn out another game with a different concept in a single day.
A strategy of mass-producing games simply by swapping assets and concepts becomes possible.

Q7. Isn't it a waste of time if you don't see results while developing games as a solo developer?

Instead of developing the same game 20 times,
you will naturally accumulate know-how and skills as you create games while switching between different genres and technologies.
In this process, some of your released titles will likely achieve at least some results,
and then that period becomes a time of growth rather than a gap in your career.

The worst-case scenario is preparing for employment for a long time while waiting for an uncertain opening,
only to end up with no results.
Furthermore, for certain roles such as business, planning, and QA, having experience with the entire game production process
becomes a portfolio of overwhelming value compared to simple conventional documents.

Q8. Why is the challenge participation fee more expensive than Inflearn online courses?

The challenge lectures are similar to small-group tutoring because they are short-term and the topics change every time.
Since we research how to generate profit based on the latest research results,
the outcome is not just simple knowledge acquisition, but launching your own game.
In fact, the challenge suggests sample directions that can realistically generate profit among non-overlapping topics,
allowing you to create a new product by mixing your own ideas into the sample.
Above all, aim to create value beyond that by launching your game.

It was difficult when I tried to do it alone without a development background, but with the guide, I was able to create something close to a finished product, so I'm satisfied. If you expect them to teach you everything, you might be disappointed, but it was good in the sense that it paved the way for you.

This course is also distinctive and attractive, but I'm not sure if it's attractive for the price. Pros 1. The technologies being taught are interesting and can be learned while saving time. Highly practical Pros 2. Relatively easy to actually launch without major difficulties Cons 1. You compared the reason for the high price to a small group tutoring session, but I didn't get that tutoring-like feeling - While you answer questions really well during live sessions, communication is difficult if you don't participate live. - It's difficult to get individual feedback on intermediate results Cons 2. Compared to the orientation or course introduction, the ending feels rushed. Conclusion: If this were a regular course, it would have been priced reasonably and would be an excellent course, but due to the cons mentioned above, I think it's expensive as a challenge (live course). I'll try purchasing up to the 2nd session, and then reconsider afterwards. I hope the disappointing aspects will be improved.
