Essential Knowledge for the AI Era: <Deep Learning for Everyone>, Understandable Without Knowing Math or Coding
Essential Knowledge for the AI Era: <Deep Learning for Everyone>, Understandable Without Knowing Math or Coding
This is a lecture that helps you develop the ability to ask and answer “Why?” and “How?” without complex formulas getting in the way.

Essential Knowledge for the AI Era: <Deep Learning for Everyone>, Understandable Without Knowing Math or Coding
I work in development, so I use AI tools every day, but whenever someone asked me how deep learning actually works, I couldn’t explain it properly. I tried opening a few books, but the moment the equations appeared, I lost interest. This course starts with a very simple idea: 'drawing a line.' As that line gradually becomes more complex and develops into a neural network, eventually leading all the way to today’s GPT, the progression is connected so naturally that I really enjoyed it. Once I understood why the terms I had memorized separately appeared in that particular order, it felt like a map had formed in my head. The explanations of Transformers and attention especially stood out to me. Seeing concepts I had only vaguely understood illustrated through examples made me think, "Oh, that’s why it works that way," and really helped me understand them. The explanations are clear enough to follow even without a background in math or coding, so I’d recommend it to anyone who uses AI but is curious about how it works!

This is a course that taught me the joy of understanding the principles behind AI, even though I use it every day! Whenever a difficult concept came up, the instructor explained it with an appropriate example, which made it especially easy to follow without feeling intimidated. I use AI throughout my daily life—I make videos with Higgsfield, code with Claude, and ask ChatGPT questions whenever I need to. Then one day, I suddenly thought, “I use it every day, but I don’t really know how it works, do I?” Out of curiosity, I looked into other courses and books, but I ended up closing them several times after being overwhelmed by unfamiliar terminology and equations 😅 This course, however, starts with a familiar image—“drawing a line”—and connects it to the problems that led to the development of each technology, making the material much more approachable. Even during moments when I thought, “This is probably where it gets difficult,” I would hear the examples and find myself thinking, “Ah, so that’s what it means!” It was really satisfying to understand things that way. I’m about halfway through the course now, and I’m enjoying not only using AI but also learning the principles behind it~ I recommend it to anyone like me who uses AI often but has always been curious about what’s going on under the hood! I’m looking forward to enjoying the rest of the course~

In this era of an AI deluge, I felt like I couldn’t understand anything and was overwhelmed by FOMO, so I signed up because the course title made it sound like it was understandable even without knowing math or coding. As it turns out, the instructor was someone whose e-book I had bought and read before. You always seem to come up with such catchy titles.. haha I once tasted despair while reading a deep learning book and running into complicated equations, and all I could do was worry about how I was supposed to get by going forward. This course lowered that barrier to entry by a lot. Even when I read the instructor’s book, I had never written a review like this, but I got a little excited and developed a sense of familiarity when I realized it was the same instructor, so I’m writing a somewhat longer review. The equations are kept to a minimum, while there are lots of illustrations and intuitive explanations. Rather than feeling like I was struggling through studying, I found myself understanding everything smoothly, as if I were watching an educational program. It calmly sank in and accumulated in my head, which felt great. It was also gratifying because the things that had seemed so overwhelming when I was reading the book finally started to make sense, making me feel like I was studying properly. I think the biggest strength is that, compared with books or other courses, you don’t simply list the characteristics of each model as if we have to memorize them all. Through storytelling, the course explains the limitations of previous models, what technology emerged to solve those limitations, and what the concept behind that technology is, all while progressing like a story. I’m truly grateful to see you consistently creating content for people who are just starting out and for juniors in the industry, and you seem like someone who has a really positive influence. Thank you, instructor haha I highly, highly recommend this to anyone studying AI for the first time—especially those who, like me, gave up after trying to read difficult books!!! lol

"If you’ve tried studying AI several times but gave up after getting stuck on the equations, this course could be a great starting point." I had also tried studying deep learning from books in the past, but I gave up once the complicated equations started appearing. This course did an excellent job of lowering that barrier to entry. It used only as much math as was absolutely necessary, and helped me understand the concepts through plenty of illustrations and intuitive explanations. What I liked most was that it didn’t simply list the characteristics of each model one by one and ask you to memorize them. I liked how it started with sentences, explained how AI processes information, discussed the limitations of earlier models, and then connected the technologies and models that emerged to solve those problems into one continuous historical narrative. Because of this, I was able to understand concepts like Transformers and GPT not as isolated pieces of knowledge, but in the context of “why these structures had to emerge.” I had often wondered why GPT sometimes gives strange answers, or why it provides broader-than-necessary answers when asked abstract questions. After taking the course, I came to understand the reasons, at least vaguely. At the same time, it made me realize that I should ask clearer and more specific questions. I can’t say that I’m now able to explain every technical detail perfectly, but if someone were to ask me, “How did GPT advance this far?” I feel that I can now explain the overall progression and the big picture in my own words. I especially recommend this course to anyone studying AI for the first time, or to people like me who have given up multiple times because of the equations.

Rather than struggling to study what deep learning is, I was able to understand and absorb it naturally, as if I were watching a current affairs and culture program. I learned how the incredibly diverse and rapidly advancing deep learning models were developed, what problems they were designed to address, and how those problems have been solved. Just as you can only understand why a friend made certain judgments and said certain things after hearing about the life they have lived, I was able to understand how the AI models we often use produce answers when given images or questions. I think this will be helpful when using AI models in the future. As AI rapidly replaces areas once considered uniquely human, I had been deeply concerned about what I could do in this situation. Through the lectures, I was able to naturally understand the limitations of AI and the scope of what humans can do. Above all, as a complete humanities person who majored in philosophy and foreign languages (and knows nothing about math...), I was glad to be able to understand deep learning easily and quickly. This is a course that helps you understand deep learning easily and draw a line distinguishing the realms of humans and AI.
