It was great that you gave job seekers who are preparing to change jobs from other fields a direction on how to explain their previous major or career on their resume.

I was worried about whether to take the seminar since the lecture runtime was not long and it was a paid course, but after attending the lecture, I realized that it was a seminar that was worth the tuition fee!

Monthly Datarian Seminar 🎤

The Datarian Seminar for February is 🔍

In the January Monthly Datarian, we shared stories of how four non-majors became data analysts. We received so many inquiries regarding resumes and portfolios. Therefore, for the February Datarian seminar, we have brought a topic that can resolve your curiosities about resumes. If you are curious about even one of the questions below, the contents of the February Datarian seminar will be helpful to you.

Recommended for those with these concerns ✅

  • I dream of becoming a data analyst, but creating a portfolio is so difficult. Are there any guidelines, such as a mandatory structure, that must be included in a resume?
  • What is the most effective way to list tool skills like SQL and Python on a resume? Should I list everything I can do in detail (including package names, when and in what situations I used them, etc.) vs. keep it brief and impactful in about one line?
  • I'm curious about data analyst portfolios. It's not easy to find actual web data, and I want to create a portfolio that can demonstrate, 'I have the skills required in the field! I've done this before!'
  • Is it better to include career experience that isn't directly related to data analysis? If I leave it out, the gap in my employment becomes too long, but if I include it, I'm worried it might leave me vulnerable to questioning during interviews, so I'm conflicted.

📺 Seminars will continue in March!

February Seminar Timeline

#Part 1 - Reading resumes of working data analysts together

  • “How should I write about experiences unrelated to data analysis on my resume?” _ Minju
  • "Should I include this in my resume or leave it out?" _Bomin

#Part 2 - Q&A with 4 Data Analysts (Minju, Bomin, Sunmi, Hyejeong)

2부에서 답하는 사전 질문 펼쳐보기

Q1. Is there a preferred resume format for companies? (e.g., Notion, traditional-style resumes, resumes that look like those for foreign companies, etc.)

Q2. I am a student who wants to organize my data analysis internship experience in my resume or portfolio. Since there is confidential information, I am wondering if I should ask the company and only disclose a portion of it. Also, I am curious how the instructors organize the work they have done at their jobs.

Q3. I have no experience as a data analyst. I am wondering if a history of passing Python coding tests or equivalent certifications would be helpful.

Q4. I'm curious about data analyst portfolios. It's not easy to obtain actual web data, and I want to create a portfolio that can demonstrate that I have the skills required in practice and that I've actually done it!

Q5. I am curious about what aspects practitioners mainly look for in the 'Data Analysis Team Project' section of a candidate's resume or during an interview. (e.g., quality of derived analysis insights, proficiency with analysis tools, etc.)

Q6. Please give me some advice on how to prepare after taking the Datarian SQL course. I am currently a graduate with no relevant experience. It is not an easy situation to do something as a team project, so would analyzing data from a domain I am interested in by myself serve as a portfolio? Also, would I be able to demonstrate my capabilities through something like this?

Q7. I am currently receiving government-funded training related to AI, but I feel that the curriculum is quite different from the actual work of a data analyst. Are there data analysts who possess deep learning knowledge or use it in their practical work?

February Seminar
Participant Introduction 📖

Part 1 Speaker <Minju>

After founding a co-living startup and working as an analyst at a B2B logistics startup, I am now the CEO of Datarian. I am a young entrepreneur with experience ranging from founding to exit. I began my first job search with a resume that spanned over 10 pages.

Part 1 Speaker <Bomin>

An analyst at a recruitment platform. A poet. On the surface, she seems to practice non-possession, but with her incredible execution and energy, she is always juggling endless projects. Her hobbies include updating her resume and portfolio, and she also loves looking at other people's resumes. She is living a true "deok-eop-il-chi" life (where one's passion and profession align).

Panelist <Sunmi>

Having worked as a data analyst at Coupang, Hyperconnect, and Kakao, I am now the CEO of Datarian. I will be participating as a panelist to review Bomin and Minju's resumes and offer some "back in my day" advice.

Panelist <Hyejeong>

Even before graduating from university, they worked as a full-time data analyst after completing an internship at a content company. Currently, they have reached a state of nirvana after resigning. They will be hosting the February seminar.
