Learning Message Queues and Asynchronous Processing with RabbitMQ

The order is confirmed, but the notification is delayed. The response is faster, but if tasks disappear after a restart, where should you look first? Using real execution records from virtual orders, we’ll walk through RabbitMQ delivery and acknowledgments, deduplication, the Outbox pattern, retries, ordering, and backlogs. We’ll also establish a way to find and complete work that remains unfinished even after a fast response.

What you will gain after the course

  • You can separate the results needed to confirm an order from the work to be handled after responding, and decide which records must be retrieved after a restart.

  • You can treat RabbitMQ routing, publisher confirms, and consumer acknowledgments as separate pieces of evidence to identify where message loss or duplication occurs.

  • You can distinguish case numbers from business keys and use DB transactions and an Outbox to coordinate responsibilities for saving, publishing, and handling duplicates.

  • You can choose to retry, check the results, isolate, or selectively reprocess based on the cause of the failure and the current task status.

  • You can set policies for order, backlog, and handoffs after closure by reviewing each order’s position and current status, intake and completion rates, and processing deadlines.

Who is this course right for?

  • Those who have built synchronous APIs but are wondering how long to wait for slow notifications or external calls.

  • For those who want to know why a job disappears after being queued or runs twice.

  • Those who need criteria for when to retry and when to stop, even after adding retries and a failure queue.

  • For those who want to connect message queue terminology to actual order and storage records and apply it in their designs.

Need to know before starting?

  • It would be great if you can read HTTP requests and responses, function calls, conditionals, and JSON, and have experience building synchronous APIs.

  • It’s helpful to have a basic understanding of how to store and query rows using SQL. I’ll explain transactions and unique constraints when they come up.

  • It’s okay if you don’t have experience operating RabbitMQ, Kafka, Redis, or other message brokers.

Nice to meet you!

I am Haeyeo, someone who explores the infinite possibilities of AI and computer science and wishes to share that journey with all of you.

During my undergraduate years, my passion for my major was so intense that I was nicknamed a 'Computer Science Addict.' I graduated at the top of my class with a major GPA of over 4.4. I then earned my Master's degree in AI from Seoul National University and further deepened my expertise through a doctoral program.

However, as I felt as much of a fascination for solving real-world problems with AI as I did for theoretical exploration, I took a break from my doctoral studies to gain valuable hands-on experience by working on AI-based LLM and video analysis projects at a startup.

Currently, I am working as an LLM project developer and PM at one of the top three conglomerates in Korea, contributing to creating positive changes that AI technology will bring to our lives. I will generously share with you the challenges I faced, the problem-solving processes I went through, and the vivid know-how I gained in the field. I will be your reliable guide on this journey into the exciting world of AI.
