"Reading the numbers reveals the company"

Knowing how to read financial statements is different from properly reading a company. In the intermediate course, based on the accounting basics learned in the introductory level, you will learn how to comprehensively analyze the balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement, statement of changes in equity, and footnotes to uncover the actual business performance and risk factors hidden behind the numbers. First, instead of taking the numbers in financial statements at face value, we will investigate why a company might be short on cash despite being in the black, why its financial position might deteriorate despite increasing profits, and why actual profitability might fall even as sales increase. Next, we will diagnose the true health and warning signs of a company by analyzing key financial ratios and trends, such as liquidity, stability, profitability, and activity. Furthermore, we will identify which businesses are actually making money by analyzing profitability by product and customer—which is more important than sales volume—as well as contribution margin, break-even point, and the relationship between price and sales volume. Moving forward, we will understand "What determines the value of our company?" through key valuation metrics such as PER, PBR, and EV/EBITDA, and examine the core factors that increase corporate value. Finally, we will develop the ability to make decisions based on evidence rather than intuition by analyzing real-world management issues—such as outsourcing vs. in-house production, product retention, pricing policies, and new investments—through numbers.

What you will gain after the course

  • The ability to read financial statements and judge the true state of a company

  • The ability to diagnose a company's risk and profitability through numbers

  • The ability to identify products, customers, and businesses that actually make money

  • The ability to make management decisions based on numbers

"Reading Numbers Reveals the Company" is a practical course that goes beyond basic accounting concepts to interpret the meaning of the numbers in financial statements and diagnose a company's actual management status.

Financial statements are not just a collection of numbers. Within the changes in these numbers lie the company's profit structure, cash flow, financial risks, business performance, and future potential.

In this course, we comprehensively analyze the balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement, statement of changes in equity, and footnotes, and use financial ratios and trends to identify signs of companies that appear healthy on the surface but are actually at risk.

Furthermore, instead of focusing solely on sales volume, we analyze contribution margin, break-even point, profitability by product, and the relationship between price and sales volume to identify the products, customers, and business segments that actually generate profit for the company.

Furthermore, we will understand key corporate value indicators such as PER, PBR, and EV/EBITDA, and examine what determines a company's value and which numbers should be managed to increase corporate value.

Finally, by analyzing real-world management issues such as in-house production vs. outsourcing, pricing, product retention or withdrawal, and investment in new businesses through numbers, you will develop management decision-making skills based on data rather than "gut feeling."
