Knowing how to read financial statements is different from properly reading a company. In the intermediate course, based on the accounting basics learned in the introductory level, you will learn how to comprehensively analyze the balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement, statement of changes in equity, and footnotes to uncover the actual business performance and risk factors hidden behind the numbers. First, instead of taking the numbers in financial statements at face value, we will investigate why a company might be short on cash despite being in the black, why its financial position might deteriorate despite increasing profits, and why actual profitability might fall even as sales increase. Next, we will diagnose the true health and warning signs of a company by analyzing key financial ratios and trends, such as liquidity, stability, profitability, and activity. Furthermore, we will identify which businesses are actually making money by analyzing profitability by product and customer—which is more important than sales volume—as well as contribution margin, break-even point, and the relationship between price and sales volume. Moving forward, we will understand "What determines the value of our company?" through key valuation metrics such as PER, PBR, and EV/EBITDA, and examine the core factors that increase corporate value. Finally, we will develop the ability to make decisions based on evidence rather than intuition by analyzing real-world management issues—such as outsourcing vs. in-house production, product retention, pricing policies, and new investments—through numbers.
