Hands-on SVD, MF, and Transformer practice, culminating in a recommendation website with login functionality.

If you only check recommendation models in a notebook, they never make it to a website members can log into and use. We’ll use movie ratings alone to predict the next rating with SVD, MF, and Transformer on the same basis, then bring everything together—from a recommendation screen that displays Korean genres to Docker deployment and GitHub.

What you will gain after the course

  • Completed a recommendation site with user registration, email verification, and JWT login.

  • Predict movie ratings using SVD, MF, and Transformer, and show 5 recommendations.

  • Train models using the device best suited to your computer: CUDA, MPS, or CPU.

  • Deploy with Docker while preserving the existing database and push it to GitHub

This hands-on project builds a complete workflow in which SVD, MF, and Transformer recommendations run on an actual website with member logins. It uses only movie ratings to predict the next rating with all three models, then displays the recommendations on a screen with Korean-language genres.

The input for all three models is the observed ratings, and the output is the next rating. We use MAE, MSE, and RMSE as the evaluation metrics. When there are more than 10,000 movies, the rate of exactly predicting the next movie ID is low. The Transformer predicts the next rating using only the observed ratings, then uses that score to select five movies the user hasn’t seen yet.

The course has four parts. First, build the membership screens and run a server with email verification and JWT login. Next, add movies and ratings to PostgreSQL, create SVD recommendations, and train an MF model on the device that suits your computer: CUDA, MPS, or CPU. Then implement and train a Transformer to predict ratings in the same way, and deploy it with Docker. Make the recommendation screen accessible only after login, and push the project to GitHub while keeping the existing database.

The hands-on exercises begin with understanding the structure, then pasting the code from the chat and checking the screen. The backend is divided into model, schema, repository, service, and web for each of auth, svd, mf, and transformer. The screen calls only the service, and the service calls only the repository.

If you can read Python code and run it in a terminal, you can follow along. You’ll need a computer where you can install Docker and your own Gmail app password. You can train using Mac MPS or the CPU even without an NVIDIA GPU. Training is done on my computer, and Docker is used for the database and site deployment.

Who is this course right for?

  • People who have built recommendation models in notebooks but haven’t been able to integrate them into a website that members can log in to.

  • People who have learned SVD, MF, and Transformers separately but haven’t been able to compare them using the same ratings and metrics.

  • For those whose model training is complete but who haven’t been able to integrate Docker deployment and GitHub into a single workflow.

Need to know before starting?

  • You just need to be able to read Python code and run it in the terminal.

  • You need a computer that can install Docker.

  • The hands-on exercise involves pasting the code from the chat and checking the screen.

  • Email verification uses your own Gmail app password. You can train using Mac MPS or a CPU even without an NVIDIA GPU.
