Basic Statistical Tests

I know the names of the tests, but I struggle to choose the right method depending on whether the goal is comparison, examining relationships, or prediction, and I mistakenly say that something is a cause when the p-value is small. We first look at the data type, then interpret the test statistic and p-value in the following order: chi-square, t-test, ANOVA, correlation, and regression.

What you will gain after the course

  • Choose the appropriate test for comparisons, relationships, and predictions.

  • Use chi-square to interpret the relationship between two categories based on the number of people.

  • Distinguishing Mean Differences with t-Tests, ANOVA, and Tukey’s Test

  • Observe the direction and strength of the correlation coefficient r in the scatter plot and heatmap.

  • Predict scores using the regression slope, intercept, R², and residuals.

Who is this course right for?

  • People who know the names of statistical tests but can’t decide which to use for comparison, association, or prediction.

  • The person who has been saying that a small p-value means causation

  • Someone who treated categorical data and numerical data in the same way

Need to know before starting?

  • You just need to have read the average and the table.

  • If you’ve ever seen how points spread out in a scatter plot, it’s easy to follow.
