It is important to find problems early because the sooner you find defects, the less costly it is. Also, you need to know exactly where the problem occurred so you can fix it. When I was a new employee developing automotive SW, I felt that implementing functions and testing was important, but as I worked on the actual work, I could feel the importance of the process. An established process creates high-quality and perfect products.
