337 Framework for Startup Business Plans

It is not easy to talk about a business plan in a short 5 minutes. Even if you know the content elements that need to be included, it is difficult to organize them clearly. Introducing the 337 Framework, a standard narrative for business plans based on years of experience coaching startups.

What you will gain after the course

  • How to Plan and Write a Narrative Business Plan

  • A standard storyboard consisting of three business plan components and seven chapters.

Attention anyone looking to write a startup business plan or proposal!
The 337 Framework provides a standard narrative for business plans. 📝

Difficulties with business plans,
Lack of narrative 🤔

Startups typically present their business plans to investors and the general public in five to ten minutes. With so little time to explain everything in a coherent manner, we often find ourselves rushing through the presentation, often missing crucial details. I define this as a lack of narrative stemming from a simple presentation . This problem is common among startups and most planners. This lack of narrative makes it difficult to grasp the flow, structure, and structure of the story, ultimately hindering comprehension.

Unfortunately, I believe the business plan formats and guidelines provided by startup support organizations have contributed to this phenomenon. Aspiring entrepreneurs typically get their first opportunity at a Demo Day by applying to competitions hosted by these organizations, but the uniform content of these application forms hinders the development of each startup's unique narrative. Furthermore, properly constructing a business model canvas was a separate issue from the business plan itself.

337 Framework 3.0?

I thought it would be really helpful for startups to provide a simple logic development template that could be presented in about 5 minutes, so I created this and named it the 337 Framework .

The 337 Framework is a standard template for writing simple, narrative business plans. It's designed for startups that need to present a lot of information in a short amount of time to an unfamiliar audience. After observing numerous startup pitches and audience reactions, Version 1.0 was released in 2018, and Version 3.0 was further refined and simplified.

Key Points 💡

The core is the plot and its seven internal components, which lead from business item to company to business . These are not simply checklists for content filling; they fundamentally embody causal relationships and context.

  • We begin by researching or supplementing the content of the seven components required by the framework.
  • The framework's highlight is the second stage, "plot," which involves maintaining the standard plot or optimizing it by modifying its structure based on the research findings. Not all startups can have the same structure. Depending on the industry, difficulty of understanding, and business maturity, the plot needs to be customized to suit the individual.
  • The final step, expression, is relatively easy compared to the previous two. Rather than focusing on flashiness, it requires a strategy that ensures quick understanding without misunderstanding .

The lecture is divided like this.

We provide reference materials.

1. In addition to the video lectures, a 50-page PDF workbook is provided that includes a template for summarizing the lecture key points and writing your own.

2. One of the areas I agonized over while planning the course was the examples. To make it easier to apply the theory to real-world situations, I felt the need for a business plan example that faithfully captured the lecture's theories. As a result, I created a fictional startup called LibTree. This startup will appear repeatedly as an example in the course, along with a five-minute presentation video, presentation slides, a presentation script, and a file containing the entire planning process.

I am Yong-seok Kim, a report and presentation coach. While working for many years as a developer, planner, and consultant at major retail and IT corporations, I published a book titled *PowerPoint Blues* in 2009. Since becoming independent the following year, I have been lecturing and coaching at numerous companies and organizations on presentations and documents such as proposals and business plans.

My lectures and coaching have always focused on narrative structure and storytelling rather than mere formatting, as I believe this is what generates the most power. My online courses also focus on cultivating that same level of inner strength and expertise.
