The June Datarian Seminar is 🔍

We recommend this to those who have these concerns ✅

  • I want to hear stories from senior data analysts about their job search process and post-employment concerns.
  • I'm curious about how senior data analysts who have already landed jobs are working.
  • Please help. I am a data analyst without a senior mentor. Am I doing my work the right way?
  • Am I doing well right now? Am I going to end up becoming a "query machine" with no real career growth?
  • I might have to work for another 20 or 30 years, so how on earth should I build my career?

📺 In July, we will discuss real-world cases of data-driven decision-making.

June Seminar Timeline

#Part 1 - Building a Self-Growing Career as an Analyst

✔ "Finding My Own North Star in the Career Wilderness"

  • Speaker Yeseul Bae - Data Analyst / Currently working at a second-hand trading platform after working at an early-morning delivery startup.

Is there anyone who can accurately define the work of a data analyst?
The role of a data analyst varies greatly from company to company, and even within the same company. In this wilderness-like situation where everyone defines a data analyst differently, what goals should we set as we build our careers? What has become my North Star?

✔ "The Story of an Analyst Who Became a Frog Out of the Well"

  • Speaker Bomin Lee - Data Analyst / Previously a Data Analyst at JobPlanet, currently analyzing data at Datarian.

As a minority job group making up less than 1% of the company, where do junior analysts even begin to study when searches for data analysis practice and related content yield no results?
It's a relief if you have a senior to ask, but you can't ask them everything from 1 to 100 every single time. What should you do if you don't want to be a frog in a well? The turbulent job-seeking journey of a working data analyst and the career concerns that unfold after getting hired. If you're curious about how those concerns are being resolved, listen to this session.

#Part 2 - Q&A

2부에서 답하는 사전 질문 펼쳐보기

Ⅰ. Regarding Employment as a Data Analyst

Q1. I am a job seeker aspiring to become a data analyst. People around me often say that the first company you join—the so-called "first start"—is very important. Since I want to work proactively and grow, I am hoping to get a job at a startup rather than a large corporation. I'm curious how I can develop an eye for good companies as a data analyst, and if the speakers have any personal tips for selecting a decent company!

Q2. Job postings often require experience in improving metrics through hypothesis setting and experimentation. How can a newcomer gain this kind of experience? I'm curious if it's possible to create these experiences indirectly without using actual corporate data!

Q3. What should I focus on when reading job postings on recruitment sites?

Q4. I'm curious about what is needed when attempting a career transition to a data analyst role from a related position that handles data but is not a data analysis position. (e.g., Marketer → Data Analyst)

Q5. I am considering resigning. To change my job to a data analyst, I feel like I would have to start as a new hire or an intern; is it okay to start that way?

II. Data Analyst Career Development

Q6. Where should a first-year data analyst focus more on for their career?

Q7. I'm curious to know what kind of tasks you were working on when you felt you were growing rapidly as a data analyst.

Q8. I'm curious to know what specific competencies and skills you are both honing as your "sharpest weapons" as analysts!

Q9. You mentioned that logic is the most important factor in data analysis. What methods would you recommend for developing that logical thinking ability?

Q10. I studied NLP data analysis and am currently in my third month at an NLP IT startup, but I am confused because I am working in a completely different role rather than data analysis. Should I prepare to change jobs before it's too late?

Q11. I'm curious if you have a role model. I'd also like to know what your dream is for the future and what kind of roadmap you are drawing to get there.

If you're curious about the live participation reviews 👏

What was the most memorable part of the seminar?

  • In the first session, I was particularly impressed by how you proactively sought out tasks and verified whether the work was truly what you wanted to do.
  • I was impressed by Yeseul's lecture, where she worked hard and didn't even mind working overtime to seize opportunities!
  • The series of processes involved in growing from a non-major to a data analyst was the most impressive part. I learned the importance of joining new communities and being inspired by various people. I thought to myself that I should make good use of the Datarian community in the future :)
  • Bomin's comment about becoming one of us was the most impressive part.
  • Through the speakers' stories of their experiences, I reflected on myself and thought that I, too, should have the persistence to actively cling to data or any task, just like the speakers.
  • There were so many points I could relate to that it left a deep impression on me. I felt a great sense of empathy regarding things like being the sole data analyst at a startup and having to pioneer the tasks I want to analyze.
  • The stories shared during the Q&A session were overall very impressive, and I especially liked how you shared insights that only practitioners in the field could have when answering questions about rapid growth in work. I even went "Oh..!" when you mentioned how you contemplated what the ROI of data analysis is. Since it's a relatively new role, I'm learning anew that there is much to pioneer and that mindset is more important than anything else in this profession.
  • As a job seeker, I didn't have a clear sense of which companies to apply for or how to choose them, but the speakers' advice on the criteria for selecting a company and the importance of establishing one's own non-negotiable standard was truly helpful.
  • What impressed me the most was how the speakers shared their experiences without filtering anything out. If they had wanted to use this commercially, they could have just told endless sweet stories, but I really liked that they focused on realistic advice~

A word for Datarian!

  • I really enjoyed the lecture! I happened to see an ad on Instagram and came with a light heart, but I feel like I'm leaving with so much valuable information. haha
  • It's a huge help for a new employee who has to start working without a senior mentor. T_T
  • It was a time like light and salt for a non-major job seeker~
  • This is my first time attending a seminar hosted by Datarian, and it seems so many people knew about this great resource before I did...! I’ll be sure to make good use of the SQL lectures and the community! Thank you for the great presentation.
  • It feels reassuring to know that there are so many fellow data analysts sharing the same concerns, and that I can hear stories from senior analysts who have already experienced these challenges. Keep it up, Datarian seminars!!!!
  • I first learned about Datarian in late May when I came across a post about RFM analysis. I regret not looking through the team blog with more interest back then, as I could have gained so much more information. Haha. Since most bootcamps focus on machine learning/deep learning techniques and only cover basic analysis methods, I always felt a sense of thirst while preparing for a career as a data analyst. Finding something as essential as salt makes me feel so reassured. Thank you!!
  • Thank you for creating a space where people interested in data analysis can gather!
  • Thank you for preparing such an informative seminar today! It was a great help in preparing for a data analyst role.
  • Thank you for such a wonderful seminar. It was a time where I could gain great information and reflect on my future career.
