Monthly Datalian Seminar 🎤

February's Datalian Seminar is 🔍

In January's monthly Datarian, we shared how four non-data analysts became data analysts. We received numerous inquiries about resumes and portfolios. Therefore, our February Datarian seminar will address your questions about resumes. If you have any questions about any of the topics below, we hope you'll find the content of our February seminar helpful.

I recommend this to anyone who is having these concerns ✅

  • I dream of becoming a data analyst, but building a portfolio is incredibly difficult. Are there any guidelines, like a structure, that should be included in a resume?
  • How should I effectively list tool skills like SQL and Python on my resume? Describe everything you can (package names, when and under what circumstances you've used them, etc.) vs. condense it to a single, impactful line.
  • I'm curious about a data analyst's portfolio. Real web data isn't easy to come by, and I want to create a portfolio that demonstrates, "I have the skills I need in the field! I've demonstrated my experience!"
  • Should I include my experience that isn't directly related to data analysis? If I don't include it, it'll be a long gap, but if I include it, I'm worried I'll be attacked for it. It's a bit of a stretch.

📺 Seminars continue in March!

February Seminar Timeline

Part 1 - Read the resumes of working data analysts.

  • “How do I include experience unrelated to data analysis on my resume?” _ Minju
  • "Should I include this on my resume or leave it out?" _Bomin

Part 2 - Q&A with 4 Data Analysts (Minju, Bomin, Seonmi, Hyejeong)

Expand the pre-questions answered in Part 2

Q1. Are there any resume formats companies prefer? (e.g., Notion, a traditional-looking resume, a resume that looks like a foreign resume, etc.)

Q2. I'm a student who wants to include my data analysis internship experience on my resume or portfolio. It's confidential, so I'm wondering if it would be okay to ask the company and only disclose a portion of it. I'm also curious about how instructors organize their work experiences.

Q3. I don't have any experience as a data analyst. Would passing a Python coding test or obtaining a similar certification be helpful?

Q4. I'm curious about a data analyst's portfolio. Real web data is hard to come by, and I want to build a portfolio that demonstrates my practical skills and experience.

Q5. I'm curious about what aspects of a candidate's "data analysis team project" are most frequently reviewed by practitioners when reviewing resumes or conducting interviews. (e.g., the quality of analytical insights, availability of analytical tools, etc.)

Q6. After taking the Datalian SQL course, what advice would you give me on how to prepare? I'm currently a graduate and have no relevant experience. It's not easy to work on a team project. Would it be possible to build a portfolio by analyzing data in a domain of my interest on my own? And would this also be a way to demonstrate my capabilities?

Q7. I'm receiving government-funded training on AI, but I feel like the content is quite different from the work of a data analyst. Are there any data analysts who have deep learning knowledge or are actually using it in their work?

February Seminar
Introducing the participants 📖

Part 1 Speaker <Democracy>

After founding a shared housing startup and working as an analyst at a B2B logistics startup, he is now the CEO of Datarian. He is a young entrepreneur with experience from startup to exit. He began his job search with over 10 pages of resume.

Speaker of Part 1: Bomin

An analyst at a recruitment platform. A poet. While he may seem like a self-made man, he's incredibly driven and energetic, constantly tackling projects. Updating his resume and portfolio is his hobby, and he enjoys reviewing others' resumes. He's living a life where his career and hobbies truly align.

Panel <Sunmi>

After working as a data analyst at Coupang, Hyperconnect, and Kakao, he is now the CEO of Datarian. I'll be participating as a panelist, reviewing Bomin and Minju's resumes and offering some advice.

Panel <Hyejeong>

Even before graduating from college, I interned as a data analyst at a content company and then moved on to a full-time position. Now, I've left the company and am in a state of nirvana. I'll be hosting the February seminar.

  • It was very helpful that you shared your actual resume and explained it in detail.

  • The resumes were impressive. I was particularly interested in the differences between the two speakers' resumes, and the reasons for their differences.
  • I was particularly impressed by the clear and easy-to-understand presentation of firsthand experience. Hearing the detailed explanations of why and how the participants made their decisions felt incredibly considerate and respectful to the audience. Furthermore, the quick feedback and real-time communication were incredibly effective, with links to necessary information readily available, making the webinar incredibly comfortable!
  • Thank you for sharing various materials and methods that can be utilized in the process of preparing a portfolio (log data/mode/contest utilization provided by Datarian, etc.)
  • Stories that only practitioners can tell!

  • I felt a genuine mentor's heart in the fact that he was eager to share even just a little bit more with the webinar attendees. 강의 런타임이 길지 않고 세미나인데 유료 결제라 수강할 지 고민했었는데 강의 듣고 난 후에는 괜히 고민했다는 생각이 들 정도로 수강료가 아깝지 않은 세미나였어요!
