A Non-CS Developer's 5-Year Journey: A Guide to Reducing Time and Trial and Error

Are you having trouble finding a job? Does studying development feel too difficult?
I understand that feeling.
I've been in the same position as you before.
I'm sharing all the know-how I acquired by spending over 30 million won over 5 years and the experience I learned from actual work.

I've seen too many cases where people need to go left to get a job, but they code hard and only go right.
Your 'skills' can improve. But getting a job can be difficult.
You can achieve what you want only by working hard after setting the right direction.

This book was written with the goal of achieving 10x results even when doing the same work in the same amount of time.

Hello,

I'm a 5th-year developer from Seongsu-dong Code Lab.

I took a gap year to retake the college entrance exam, so I entered university one year late.
I also have experience failing the civil service exam.
My leave of absence period extended, so I attended university for a whopping 9 years.
I've done almost every part-time job imaginable - newspaper delivery, serving, convenience store, cafe, cleaning, early morning gym front desk, and more.

When I was almost thirty years old, I had no confidence in finding employment because I had no practical work experience and low grades.

I couldn't find any interest in the major I entered based on my test scores, and the future felt so uncertain.

However, I felt a lack of money from a young age and vaguely wanted to earn a lot of money and become rich.
Then, through a startup club, I learned about something called 'coding'.
The process of turning ideas into reality and seeing them with my own eyes was really fun.
For about a year, I didn't take a single day off from coding.
As a result, a new chapter called 'developer' opened in my life.

After getting a job as a developer

The work wasn't easy, but I really loved the fact that I could earn money while growing.
Having a job where I could feel a sense of achievement every day also gave me great satisfaction.
And now I'm in a situation where I've exceeded the salary I once dreamed of, thinking 'it would be so great to earn just this much.'

However, I went through so many trials and errors in the process of getting here and wasted a lot of time and money.

Summary of Trial and Error Process

1) Self-study
- The beginning of struggle: Tried to memorize coding through online lectures and books.

2) 3-month 6.5 million won coding bootcamp
- I was too anxious to do it alone, so I enrolled in a bootcamp near my home.

3) Employment at a Small HR Solution Company
- Basic remote work, with occasional office visits a few times every few months when needed.
- The work was extremely difficult and challenging.
- Daily routine of working overtime until dawn without anyone knowing became repetitive.

4) Company + 6-month 2.5 million won educational institution combination
- Found it difficult to make time for self-study while working, so combined with an educational institution.

5) Quit job due to thirst for learning + enrolled in a 4-month 6 million won educational institution
- The pace of improving my development skills was frustratingly slow.
- I mistakenly thought that if I just enrolled in a specific educational institution and followed along well, I would become an exceptional developer, so I quit my job and enrolled in the institution.

6) Government-funded 3-month + 4-month 5.6 million won educational institution enrollment
- I thought this was my last chance to focus solely on learning.
- I happened to learn about free government funding and enrolled, and from this point I gained confidence in development.
- To further build my skills, I additionally enrolled in an educational institution for working developers.

7) Career Change to Media Platform Startup
- Basic remote work, commuting to office once a month.
- Gained confidence in development and quality of life improved dramatically.

8) Company + 6-month 3.3 million won educational institution parallel
- Registered thinking it would be the last chance with the goal of transitioning to big tech or large corporations.

9) E-commerce Domain Large Corporation Job Change

In addition to this, I spent over 30 million won in total on learning through private tutoring, online course enrollment, and other methods.
Through trial and error, I realized that while there are many educational institutions and a tremendous amount of learning content available on the internet,
Just because you work 'hard' as instructed doesn't mean anyone can become a developer.

Difficulties of Non-Majors

I had absolutely no developers around me at all.
Fortunately, there was a lot of developer content on YouTube,
but I kept repeating the cycle of learning 'a' because 'a' seemed important, then learning 'b' because 'b' was said to be important.
Deep learning was difficult, and although I bought most of the famous courses and books, I was frustrated that my skills weren't improving. It was especially difficult to find direction in my learning.

So I learned through many educational institutions and went through a lot of trial and error in the process.

Can I really do it?

Are you afraid that development might be too difficult?
Do you feel like this might not be the right path for you?

Since I, a liberal arts non-major who received a 2.0 GPA, was able to do it, I believe everyone can do it.
Those who have similar or superior abilities to mine will be able to achieve much faster results.

Is the developer job market too difficult?

During the COVID pandemic, the IT market was booming, but it's true that now is a somewhat more difficult time than back then.

However, that doesn't mean the opportunity has disappeared.

There are still developers who succeed in getting jobs, and there are also cases of successful career transitions.

I also changed jobs to a mid-sized company in the fintech domain in April 2025 and achieved satisfactory salary negotiation results.

Additionally, I also hear news of job placements from the mentees I am mentoring.

Job postings are being uploaded daily, and there are many companies struggling to find capable developers.

What you need now is not 'luck' but 'strategy'.

If you set the right direction and prepare with focus, you can definitely seize the opportunity.

I will provide you with realistic and proper direction.

I am not a developer with exceptionally outstanding technical skills.
There are countless people who are better at development than I am.
However, I can understand better than anyone the hearts of those of you who want to become developers and are reading this article right now.

In the past, I regretted not having a 'mentor' who could deeply understand my situation and circumstances and guide me well.
If I had one, I could have achieved my goals with much less time and cost.
Now, I will become your mentor.

'Those who have fallen know how to help others who have fallen.' As this saying goes,
I have fallen countless times, and based on that experience, I will guide you on the right path.

In particular, during my first job change, I had the experience of receiving final offers from over 10 companies, including large corporations, but I chose a startup with the hope that I might be able to change the world. However, I had to face the reality of being recommended for resignation when the team was disbanded after just 8 months.

In that process, I desperately realized 'how important the company's choice is' and was able to learn what criteria should be used when choosing a company.

Including this experience, I will share all of my accumulated experience from the past 5 years.

How about taking on a challenge with me that might just change your life?

After reading this book

  • You can get a job as a developer faster than doing it alone.

  • You can learn how to grow as a 'deep developer' beyond just getting a job, significantly increase your salary, and successfully change jobs.

  • You can escape the life of commuting on hellish trains 5 days a week and get closer to a life where you can generate income with just a laptop.

🚨We cannot guarantee that anyone can easily grow into a high-salary developer.

However, what can be obtained through that confidential document is clear.

If you make the confidential documents and 1:1 intensive chat room content your own and study consistently,
no matter how the job market changes, you'll be able to quickly start a new chapter in your life as a developer.
We'll also guide you on the path to quickly reach your dream salary.
