I read it all evening as soon as I bought it! It was time that helped break the vague feeling of 'Can I become a developer?'. I liked that it contained a lot of realistic content rather than unconditionally saying you can. I think there is a lot of helpful content for people like me who don't have family or close friends who are current developers around them. In particular, the book is easy to read and I have a sense of direction to some extent. I feel like I discovered Seongsu-dong Code Lab at the perfect time. Thank you so much for saving my time!!!!

This is so great. Other e-books or lectures on similar topics were too abstract and focused on motivation, so I couldn't find solutions to my concerns, but this book is really specific. It tells you what direction to study in the future, how to write a resume, and how to prepare for an interview. Even for someone like me with not-so-great reading comprehension, it was easy to understand. I would recommend it not only to job seekers but also to those who want to change jobs but feel lost. At this price, for two weeks... the 1:1 chat room service is also included, so it feels like you're getting more value than just an e-book. Thank you. I enjoyed reading it!!

I had a lot of thoughts after reading the book. At 33, as a non-major, after deciding to switch careers to become a developer, I came across this book while looking for guidance, feeling like I couldn't waste a single day. From the title to the content and structure, there was nothing to miss, and it was realistic rather than abstract and vague. I wondered if you could provide such detailed information for this price, as you generously provided information, and I received a lot of support to not be shaken, even though the road ahead is long. I hope that the day will come when I can work in this field, and I will study hard. Thank you sincerely for the heartfelt book! 😆 (I'm also really looking forward to the 1:1 close-contact chat room. Please take good care of me.🙇‍♂️)

A Non-Major Developer's 5-Year Journey: A Guide to Reducing Time and Trial and Error

Is it hard to find a job? Does studying development feel too difficult?
I understand how you feel.
I was once in the same position as you.
I am sharing all the know-how I acquired while spending over 30 million won over 5 years, along with the experiences I gained in the field.

I have seen so many cases where people code hard only to head right, even though they need to go left to get a job.
Your "skills" might improve. However, it could still be difficult to get hired.
You must work hard after setting the proper direction to achieve what you want.

This book was written with the goal of achieving 10x results even when spending the same amount of time on the same task.

Hello,

I am Seongsu-dong Code Lab, a developer with 5 years of experience.

I entered university a year late after retaking the entrance exam.
I also have the experience of failing the civil service examination.
My leave of absence was prolonged, so I attended university for a total of nine years.
I have done almost every part-time job imaginable, including newspaper delivery, serving, convenience stores, cafes, cleaning, and working the front desk at a gym in the early morning.

By the time I was nearly thirty, I had no confidence in finding a job because I had no practical experience and my GPA was low.

I couldn't find any interest in the major I chose based on my grades, and the future felt so bleak.

However, because I had felt a lack of money since I was young, I vaguely wanted to earn a lot of money and become rich.
Then, I discovered 'coding' through an entrepreneurship club.
The process of turning ideas into reality and seeing them with my own eyes was truly fun.
For about a year, I didn't take a single day off from coding.
As a result, a new chapter called 'developer' opened in my life.

After getting a job as a developer

The work wasn't easy, but I really loved the fact that I could earn money while growing.
Doing work where I could feel a sense of accomplishment every day also gave me great satisfaction.
And currently, I have surpassed the salary that I once dreamed of, thinking, 'It would be so great if I could just earn this much.'

However, in the process of getting here, I went through a lot of trial and error and wasted a great deal of time and money.

Summary of the Trial and Error Process

1) Self-study
- The beginning of trial and error: Tried to study coding by memorizing through online lectures and books.

2) 3-month coding bootcamp for 6.5 million won
- Feeling completely uneasy on my own, I registered for a bootcamp near my house.

3) Employment at an HR solution SME
- Primarily working from home, commuting once every few months when necessary.
- The work was very difficult and challenging.
- A routine of working overtime until dawn without anyone knowing was repeated.

4) Working + attending a 2.5 million won educational institution for 6 months simultaneously
- Enrolled in an educational institution while working because it was difficult to find time to study alone.

5) Resigned due to a thirst for learning + Enrolled in a 4-month educational institution costing 6 million won
- I was very frustrated with the slow pace of my development skills improving.
- I mistakenly thought that if I just enrolled in a specific educational institution and followed along well, I would become an exceptional developer, so I resigned and enrolled.

6) Enrolled in 3 months of government-funded training + 4 months at a 5.6 million KRW educational institution
- I thought of it as my last chance to focus entirely on learning.
- I happened to find out about free government-funded training and enrolled, and from this point on, I began to gain confidence in development.
- To further build my skills, I additionally enrolled in an educational institution for current developers.

7) Moved to a media platform startup
- Primarily remote work, with office attendance once a month.
- Gained confidence in development, and quality of life improved dramatically.

8) Working while attending a 3.3 million won educational institution for 6 months
- Enrolled thinking it was my last chance, aiming to move to a Big Tech company or a large corporation.

9) Career move to a major e-commerce corporation

In addition to this, I spent over 30 million won on learning through private tutoring and online courses.
What I felt while going through trial and error is that although there are many educational institutions and a vast amount of content available to learn from online,
it doesn't mean that anyone can become a developer just by working 'hard' as they are told.

Difficulties of non-majors

I didn't have a single developer around me.
Fortunately, there was a lot of developer content on YouTube,
but I found myself in a repeating cycle of studying 'a' because it seemed important, and then switching to 'b' because someone else said that was important.
It was difficult to study in depth, and even though I bought most of the famous lectures and books, I felt frustrated because my skills weren't improving. In particular, it was very hard to find the right direction for my studies.

So I studied through many different educational institutions and went through a lot of trial and error in the process.

Will I really be able to do it?

Are you afraid that development will be too difficult?
Do you feel like it might not be the right path for you?

I believe everyone can do it because I did it, even as a non-CS major from the humanities with a GPA in the 2.0 range.
If you have skills similar to or better than mine, you will be able to achieve results much faster.

Is the developer job market too difficult?

It is true that while the IT market boomed during the COVID-19 pandemic, the current period is somewhat more difficult than it was then.

However, that does not mean the opportunities have disappeared.

There are still developers who are successfully landing jobs, and cases of successful career transitions continue to emerge.

I also changed jobs to a mid-sized fintech company in April 2025 and achieved a satisfying result in my salary negotiation.

Additionally, I am hearing news of successful employment from the mentees I am currently mentoring.

Job postings are uploaded every day, and many companies are struggling because they cannot find competent developers.

What you need right now is not 'luck', but 'strategy'.

If you set the right direction and prepare with focus, you can certainly seize the opportunity.

I will provide you with a realistic and correct sense of direction.

I am not a developer with extraordinary technical skills.
There are countless people who are better at development than I am.
However, I can understand the hearts of those of you reading this because you want to become a developer better than anyone else.

In the past, I felt it was a shame that I didn't have a 'mentor' who deeply understood my situation and status and could lead me well.
If I had, I would have been able to achieve my goals with much less time and cost.
Now, I will become your mentor.

As the saying goes, 'Only those who have fallen know how to help others back up,'
I have fallen countless times, and based on those experiences, I will lead you down the right path.

In particular, during my first career move, I received final offers from over 10 companies, including major corporations, but I chose a startup with the hope that I could change the world. However, within just eight months, the team was disbanded, and I had to face the reality of a recommendation for resignation.

In that process, I deeply realized “how important the choice of a company is,” and I was able to learn what criteria should be used when selecting a company.

Including this experience, I will share all the experiences I have accumulated over the past 5 years.

How about taking on a challenge with me that might just change your life?

[Update Notice] The Era of AI, Survival Strategies for Developers: Moving Beyond Implementers to Decision-Makers

With the recent rapid advancement of AI technology, many aspiring and current developers have been sharing these concerns.

"Since AI does all the coding, does a developer's skill even matter anymore?"

In times like these, I emphasize that the essential role of a developer is changing. The era of the "implementer" who simply writes code is fading, and the era of the "Decision Maker"—who decides which technologies to choose and which direction to take—has arrived.

The secret document reflects these changes of the times and contains perspectives to help you grow beyond a mere implementer into an independent developer.

+ I believe in the value of 'consistency'.

I sometimes code from after work until I go to bed, and I have been running a "Mogakko" (coding together) group for about five years, meeting every weekend from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM unless something special came up. I believe that consistent effort and practice ultimately lead to growth.

Having nowhere nearby to ask for advice, and even searching for employment information online felt hard to understand and too vague to be helpful, so I couldn't get help. In contrast, because you gave more specific direction on what and how to prepare, it was a great help.
