🤬 Operating systems interview—why can’t I say anything even though I definitely know it all?!

I completed Woowahan Tech Course and worked as a backend engineer at several companies. I’m currently working as a backend engineer and interviewer at Channel Talk, and my name is Jion. I wasn’t good at interviews from the start either. In fact, I scored near the bottom in a mock interview at Woowahan Tech Course and even had a separate meeting with the CEO.

Deadlock? I knew that. What is context switching? Of course I had prepared that too. But once I sat in the interview room, things changed.

"Please explain what virtual memory is." Up to that point, everything was fine. I went through it just as I had prepared. But then the interviewer singled out one of my answers and asked, "Then how is a virtual address converted into a physical address?" The moment they did, my mind went blank. I was sure I had seen it somewhere. I had even reviewed it. But at that moment, I had no idea what I was supposed to say.

After leaving the interview and searching on my phone, you think, "Ah, that was it..." That feeling of emptiness... I’m sure many of you can relate.

From then on, I started recording my interviews and reviewing them afterward. I made a log of my mistakes and compared my previous answers with my current answers to the same questions. As I accumulated hundreds of questions and answers, patterns began to emerge: which answers convinced interviewers and which ones prompted unnecessary follow-up questions.

Only after making these mistakes hundreds of times did I realize that knowing the theory and explaining it in an interview are completely different skills. So I decided to create a course focused solely on “how to answer questions.”

✨ 4 Points I Focused on When Creating the Course

This is not a theory review course."A course that explains what a deadlock is" is unnecessary when you can simply look at a blog. This course teaches you, "If the interviewer asks this, answer like this. Each lesson corresponds to one interview question and breaks down step by step how to answer it.

We compare and analyze three levels of answers—Bronze → Silver → Gold—to the same question. A Bronze answer is worth 50 out of 100 points, a Silver answer is worth 80 points, and a Gold answer is worth 100 points. We show in detail why candidates can pass or fail even when they use the same keywords, and what makes the difference.

It is built around actual past interview questions from major corporations and unicorn startups. It includes not only the main questions but also the follow-up questions that actually come afterward. From the main question to the follow-up and even the follow-up to the follow-up, the course follows the exact way questions flow in real interviews.

Frequently asked questions are provided as a supplementary PDF and continuously updated.Frequently asked questions not covered in the course will be provided separately as a PDF, and we plan to keep adding more in the future. With a single purchase, you will continue to receive the updated supplementary materials.

👍 This is perfect for those who:

Those who can answer, but go blank when follow-up questions come their way

Those who want to know what an interviewer is really thinking: “What will they think after hearing this answer?”

Those who want to get hired by IT service companies such as Kakao, Naver, LINE, and Toss

'Please explain the process of a program running from the operating system's perspective.' Lesson excerpt

'(Follow-up question) What is the difference between a binary semaphore and a mutex?' In class

'(Follow-up question) How does thread-based I/O differ from event-loop-based I/O?' During the class

Notes

  1. The course is conducted on the assumption that you have at least a basic understanding of operating system theory. To get the most out of the course, you should have encountered concepts such as the CPU and processes at least once.

  2. If you come across anything you don't understand while studying, please use the Q&A board to ask questions right away 😊

🚨 Be sure to check what kind of person the educator is!

If you meet the wrong doctor, you may be unable to cure your illness and face death right then. However, death ends with the pain of that moment. But if you meet the wrong teacher and receive poor education, you will suffer throughout your entire life.

Due to a poor education, you may end up at a company you never wanted to work for, receive a smaller salary than expected, and suffer as a result for the rest of your life. Not only that, the poor education you received may be passed down to your own children.

I believe education can truly change a person's life for the better, but on the other hand, it can also completely ruin someone's life. That's how great a responsibility education carries.

Therefore, please check who the educator is, what kind of person they are, and what path they have taken, and make your decision carefully.

👋 Hello!
I’m finally getting around to introducing myself ( ⸝⸝•ᴗ•⸝⸝ )੭⁾⁾

Hello!

I’m Jyon (Jayon), a six-year developer working as a backend engineer at Channel Talk.

After completing the backend course at Woowahan Tech Course 3rd cohort, I started my career at a small and midsize SI company. My salary was at the minimum level. To get away from there, I devoted a great deal of time to preparing for coding tests and interviews. As a result, after working at Chai Corporation (PortOne), I now earn several times more than I did at the beginning of my career and work with Channel Talk’s core systems, which handle tens of billions of records.

Through this process, I realized that it’s really difficult to find the right direction when preparing for a job on your own. That’s why I worked as a backend mentor at F-Lab, JSCODE, and Fast Campus, and also served as a reviewer for the 5th cohort of Woowahan Tech Course. Through mentoring, I’ve helped students get accepted by companies such as Naver, Kakao, Line, Coupang, Baemin, Danggeun Market, Toss, unicorns, and large corporations, and the know-how I accumulated throughout that process is fully reflected in this course.

Just as I received a great deal of help when things were difficult and challenging for me, I wanted to become someone who could help many others as well. And I feel the most proud and happy when the value I create through development has a positive impact on others.

I also run the technical blog steady-coding, so if you're curious about what kind of developer I am, please stop by!

Thank you!
