A 5-Year Journey of a Non-Professional Developer: A Guide That Saves Time and Trial and Error

Are you having trouble finding a job? Do you feel like studying development is too difficult?
I understand that feeling.
I've been in the same position as you.
I will share all the know-how and practical experience I have acquired while spending over 30 million won over 5 years.

I've seen too many cases where people work hard on their code and end up going to the right when they need to go to the left to get a job.
Your skills can improve, but it can be difficult to get a job.
After setting the right direction, you can achieve what you want only if you work hard.

This book was written with the goal of producing X10 times better results in the same amount of time and on the same tasks.

hello,

This is Seongsu-dong Code Lab, a 5-year developer.

I repeated a year and entered college a year late.
I also have experience of taking the civil service exam and failing.
The gap period was long, and I ended up attending college for a whopping 9 years.
There is almost no part-time job I haven't done, including newspaper delivery, serving, convenience store, cafe, cleaning, and working at the information desk at an early morning gym.

When I was almost thirty, I had no work experience, low grades, and no confidence in finding a job.

I had no interest in the major I entered based on my grades, and my future seemed bleak.

But since I was young, I felt a lack of money and vaguely wanted to make a lot of money and become rich.
Then, I learned about 'coding' through an entrepreneurship club.
The process of making the idea a reality and seeing it with my own eyes was really fun.
I haven't taken a single day off from coding for about a year.
As a result, a new chapter in my life called ‘Developer’ opened.

After getting a job as a developer

It wasn't easy, but I really enjoyed the opportunity to make money while growing up.
Doing something that gives me a sense of accomplishment every day also gives me great satisfaction.
And now, I am earning a salary that has surpassed the salary I dreamed of, thinking, 'I'd be happy if I could just earn this much.'

But in the process of getting here, I went through a lot of trial and error and wasted time and money.

Summary of the trial and error process

1) Self-study
- The beginning of digging: Trying to memorize coding through online lectures and books.

2) 3-month 6.5 million won coding boot camp
- I was anxious about doing it alone, so I registered for a boot camp near my house.

3) HR Solutions Small and Medium Business Employment
- Basic work from home, with in-person visits every few months as needed.
- The work was so difficult and tiring.
- The routine of working overtime until dawn without anyone knowing is repeated.

4) Company + 6 months 2.5 million won educational institution parallel
- It is difficult to find time to study on my own while working, so I attend an educational institution at the same time.

5) Quit your job due to thirst for learning + Register for 4 months at a 6 million won educational institution
- I was frustrated by the speed at which my development skills were improving.
- I registered at a specific educational institution and thought that if I just followed the instructions well, I would become an outstanding developer, so I registered at the educational institution after quitting my job.

6) 3 months of national support + 4 months of 5.6 million won for educational institution registration
- I thought this was my last chance to focus solely on my studies.
- I happened to find out about free government funding and signed up, and from that point on, I started to feel confident in development.
- Additional registration of training institutions for developers to further develop their skills.

7) Media platform startup job transfer
- Basic work from home, commuting to work once a month.
- Confidence in development also increases and quality of life improves rapidly.

8) Company + 6 months 3.3 million won educational institution parallel
- I registered with the thought that this would be my last chance to move to a big tech or large corporation.

9) Moving to a large company in the e-commerce domain

In addition to this, I spent a total of over 30 million won on private tutoring, online classes, etc.
What I realized through trial and error is that there are many educational institutions and a lot of learning content on the Internet.
The point is that not everyone can become a developer just by 'working hard' as they are told .

Difficulties for non-majors

I really didn't have a single developer around me.
Fortunately, there is a lot of developer content on YouTube.
I learned A because I thought A was important, and then I learned B because I thought B was important. This situation was repeated.
It was difficult to study in depth, and although I bought most of the famous lectures and books, I was frustrated because my skills did not improve. In particular, it was very difficult to determine the direction of my studies.

So I studied through many educational institutions and experienced a lot of trial and error along the way.

Can I really do it?

Are you afraid that development will be too difficult?
Do you feel like this isn't your path?

I think anyone can do it because I, a non-liberal arts major with a GPA of 2, did it.
People with similar or better skills than me will be able to achieve results much faster.

Is the developer job market too difficult?

Although the IT market was booming during the Corona pandemic, it is true that times are somewhat more difficult now than then.

But that doesn't mean the opportunity is gone.

There are still developers who are successful in finding jobs, and there are also cases of successful job changes.

I also moved to a mid-sized company in the fintech domain in April 2025 and achieved satisfactory salary negotiation results.

I also hear job news from the mentees I am mentoring.

Job openings are posted every day, and many companies are struggling to find capable developers.

What we need now is not 'luck' but 'strategy'.

If you set the right direction and prepare with focus, you will definitely be able to seize the opportunity.

We will provide you with realistic and correct direction.

I am not a developer with particularly outstanding technical skills.
There are countless people who are better at development than me.
However, I can understand better than anyone else the feelings of those of you reading this article who want to become developers now.

In the past, I regretted not having a 'mentor' who could deeply understand my situation and condition and guide me well.
If we had done so, we could have achieved our goals in much less time and at much less cost.
Now I will be your mentor.

As the saying goes, 'A person who has fallen knows how to pick up another who has fallen.'
I have fallen countless times, and I will use my experience to guide you on the right path.

In particular, when I first changed jobs, I had the experience of being accepted by more than 10 companies including large corporations, but I chose a startup with the hope that I could change the world. However, after 8 months, I had to face the reality that the team was disbanded and I was recommended to resign.

In the process, I realized how important it is to choose a company , and I learned what criteria I should use to choose a company.

I will share with you all my experiences, including this one, that I have accumulated over the past five years.

Would you like to join me and take on a challenge that could change your life?

After reading this book

  • You can get a job as a developer faster than doing it alone.

  • You will learn how to grow as a 'deep developer' beyond just finding a job, and you will be able to successfully change jobs while receiving a significant increase in salary.

  • You can escape the hellish commute of 5 days a week and get closer to a life where you can make money with just your laptop.

🚨 Not everyone can easily achieve growth as a high-income developer.

But what we can get from that secret document is clear.

If you make the contents of the secret document and 1:1 chat room your own and study them consistently,
No matter how the job market changes, you'll be able to quickly start a new chapter in your life as a developer.
We also provide guidance on how to quickly achieve your dream salary.
