📝 Why I wrote this article

"I want to recommend opportunities for my juniors/colleagues who are good at their jobs to be recognized for their efforts and have better salary/benefits/growth potential!" This is how I started writing down stories that I would share with my juniors/colleagues over coffee.

I have no experience of studying abroad or staying abroad for a long time. Although I have experience working in a global company, it was only for about two years, and I didn't use English as much as I thought. So I had vague fears.

I applied to foreign companies a total of 4 times, and I am currently very satisfied with my company life after successfully changing jobs . Not only did my annual salary increase significantly, but in many cases, foreign companies provide good working environments and good benefits😎. However, it was not smooth sailing from the beginning, and there were times when I was vague about where to start.

I did not write down "the amazing methods that are not in the world" in this document. All information can be found with time and effort. However, I think this article can provide the following value to those who do not know 'where to start' and those who are concerned about specific How-to .

  • You can save time. I will teach you how to write an English resume and prepare for an English interview based on the know-how refined from my four attempts to change jobs at foreign companies. (Four times may seem like a small number, but the process of changing jobs at foreign companies can take anywhere from 3-4 months to a year. I tried for a total of 3 years.)
  • Contains realistic career advice from a practitioner's perspective.
  • I'll be honest with you. Especially! I'll be very open about salary negotiations . (This is the hardest thing for me to ask.)

Why do you recommend moving to a foreign company ?

It feels like I do all the work myself, and if I do well, they give me more work?

The reason I decided to move to a foreign company was because of the dissatisfaction I had accumulated over the years with domestic companies . Of course, it may vary from company to company, but I was working at a so-called 'large and stable' company with an average tenure of nearly 15 years, and I was dissatisfied with the various absurdities carried out in the name of 'organizational logic'.

  • No matter how good your performance is, if you don't have a lot of seniority, you won't be given a promotion opportunity and a small salary increase.
  • A company and HR that change my job/affiliation at will, regardless of my career development or desired career.
  • Even though I don't do any work, I get paid every day just because I have more years of service 🤬🤬🤬
  • Reporting for the sake of reporting & meetings for the sake of meetings, not related to work at all! (Today, let's discuss ways to form a meeting body to resolve employees' complaints that there are too many meetings in the company and it's hard to work! You take turns saying something!)

However, there were many seniors around me who had successfully changed jobs and were enjoying high salaries and good benefits, and what these seniors had in common was that in addition to being good at their jobs, they had also changed jobs to foreign companies. So I also kept trying and eventually succeeded in changing jobs!

😎 I recommend this article to these people:

  • Someone who has worked for a domestic company for at least 3 years, or approximately 5 to 10 years.
  • Especially those who wish to move to a foreign company rather than another domestic company.
  • For those who want high salary increase💸 and good benefits🎁
  • If you have found a position you like at a foreign company or received a job offer but are unsure of where to start,
  • Those who are not as good at English as a native speaker, but have experience preparing for an English interview or have plans to prepare for one
  • Those who wish to work abroad in the long term
  • Those who feel limited by the corporate culture or work methods unique to domestic companies and want to work for a company where their performance is recognized according to their efforts, and those who want to work for a company with a good corporate culture.

✏️ What you will learn in this course

In this document, I will broadly cover the following topics :

  • Pros and cons of foreign companies , and reasons for recommending foreign companies : High salary and high level of benefits , opportunities and compensation given in proportion to my performance , but equally great responsibility and burden , and the pressure of English
  • How to get information and apply for a job at a foreign company : Friend recommendation , headhunter , job posting
  • How to prepare and manage your English resume : It covers how to write a good English resume ( not just my own opinion , but based on stories and cases from actual overseas recruiters ), my own know-how for writing one easily, and even know-how for creating a good resume.
  • How to prepare for an interview : Differences between interviews at foreign companies and domestic companies . And how did you prepare for an English interview ?
  • How to Negotiate Your Salary : The flower of job changes , the biggest reason for job changes , but it's a story that's really hard to ask about!

🙋🏻‍♂️ Expected Questions Q&A

Q. Why should I take this course?

A. If you have a senior who is willing to help you, you may not need to take this course!

In fact, I think there are two main types of people who can help us when we change jobs.
1) One is a very close senior colleague , and 2) the other is a headhunter .

In the former case, if you have already moved to another company and are still in contact with them, you can ask them comfortably. If that person moved to a foreign company and is someone who can answer any questions you ask, I don't think you necessarily need to watch this lecture. What if you have a really close senior, but he or she is your boss? Yes! Can you tell him or her about your intention to move and ask him or her without any burden? 🤔 Hmm, I think it would be a bit burdensome.

Headhunters are a bit different. In my case, many of the headhunters who contacted me had such a poor understanding of the job that they didn't help me develop my career at all.🤐 I think it's because they often had shallow knowledge of a wide field, as they are professionals who change jobs.

In this article, I will tell you everything honestly based on my experience of trying to change jobs at foreign companies four times. Even the 'salary negotiation' that you feel embarrassed to ask your close senior colleagues about! (For your information, headhunters do not only advise you on salary negotiations. This is because, while your salary increase is important, 'getting hired' is the most important thing to them.)

Q. Can't I prepare for a job change even without taking this course?

A. That's right. In particular, there are many books related to job changes, and these days, you can get a lot of information through searches. However, the reason I decided to write this article in earnest is because of my experience where there were a lot of search results, but it wasn't easy to find the right information. Below is 'How to write a resume' that I searched for myself in June 2020. Please search for it yourself . If you think you can get enough good information through search results, you can prepare it yourself!

This time, let's find out how to negotiate your salary.

(Let's make a body and not panic.)

Well, I'll leave it to you to decide!

Q. There are many books and articles related to job changes, but what makes this article different?

A. Many of the books I read while preparing for a job change were written from the perspective of HR managers or headhunters. I felt that the writings of people who work in recruiting, career development, etc., rather than in a specific field of work, were full of empty talk . Personally, for me!

Personally, the content that resonated with me the most among the articles on career development was 'know-how from people who are actually working in the field.' There were many cases where I could relate to the articles written by people who are actually working in the field, which can be found on blogs, Brunch, Medium, etc.

I don't do recruiting as a job, and my actual job is as a Product Manager at an IT company. That's why I think I can tell you stories that are even more relevant to those who have similar jobs or are in similar industries. It's like sitting next to you and listening to a story from a senior who is thinking about changing jobs!

Q. I'm curious as to why the price was set this way!

A. As I mentioned earlier, this article was written with the motto of providing practical advice based on stories told 'honestly' by close seniors and things I have personally experienced. Accordingly, I set the price of the lecture at 'the cost of having coffee ☕ 2-3 times with a close senior'. (The junior will pay for the coffee and cake...)

I hope this article helps you prepare for your career change!
