The Cultural History of Wine through Classical Chinese Poetry: From Antiquity to the Ming and Qing Dynasties

This course explores the cultural and literary significance of wine as depicted in Chinese poetry across different eras. From the Han Dynasty to the Ming and Qing Dynasties, we will appreciate the emotions, thoughts, and social conditions expressed by poets through wine, using original texts and translations of representative poems. Participants will experience a humanities journey to understand the evolving imagery and deep symbolism of wine within the historical context of each period.
