Hello!

Welcome to the Overseas Employment 101 course page! My name is Minjeong Kwon, and I work as a consultant at Deloitte, an accounting firm in New York.

Would you like to work abroad?

Are there any of you who, like me, would like to work abroad? I’ve wanted to work in another country since I was young. The cost of studying abroad may feel prohibitive, or you may not enjoy studying; you might also feel that a semester abroad is too short. Or perhaps you’d like to build your career by doing important or large-scale work overseas. Since I was in college, I’d been looking into working abroad because I wanted to earn money, live, and gain a variety of experiences in the United States.

My Journey to Working Abroad - The Challenging Preparation Process

When I was preparing to find a job, there seemed to be even fewer resources about working abroad than there are now, and it was really hard to find anyone around me who had actually gotten a job overseas. Some of my friends were interested in exchange programs or studying abroad, but hardly anyone, like me, wanted to work in another country. So I often felt unsure whether my dream of working in the United States was realistically possible.

Little by little, I sought out people who had found jobs in the U.S., met with them, gathered information, and developed job-search strategies. I came to realize that working abroad was possible and began preparing. I was helped by many people along the way.

Why I created this course

Perhaps I created this course because I wanted to help people like me—those who want to work abroad or at a multinational company but aren’t sure how to make it happen. Having gone through the process myself, I understand and empathize with how they feel better than anyone.

Features of This Course

Based on my experience finding and changing jobs in the U.S., I created the Overseas Employment 101 course. I’ve organized the job search process into a series of lessons, so if you follow them in order, you’ll be able to prepare for your job search with ease. The course covers everything you need for your job search, including resume writing, networking, making the most of LinkedIn, interview preparation, and tips for finding work overseas.

Advantages of this course

The reason I confidently recommend this course is that it includes all the most important lessons and know-how I’ve gained over the years while looking for jobs and changing jobs. Here are a few of them:

1) Using LinkedIn

In my opinion, LinkedIn is currently the most helpful tool for finding a job. That’s because it offers so much information and so many opportunities, including job listings, company information, insights from people currently working in the field, and networking opportunities. This course covers in great detail how to make the most of LinkedIn.

2) Resumes from working professionals

A good resume needs both a strong format and strong content. Learn how to write compelling resume content in this course, and use the resumes from New York professionals that I provide as templates for formatting.

3) Using ChatGPT

Learn how to use artificial intelligence to write resumes and cover letters. Of course, review the results and content to ensure you use them appropriately.

4) Learn how to increase your job opportunities through networking.

Networking with people opens up many possibilities. Today, you can also network through online platforms such as LinkedIn, which means that even while in Korea, you can connect with professionals in the country where you want to work. Learn how to network regardless of location to increase your job opportunities.

5) Tips to Help You Find a Job Overseas

Learn about fields and skills that can help you land a job.

And the material in this course can be applied not only to finding a job abroad, but also to getting a job at a foreign company in your home country or changing jobs.

Lastly

If you work in the US and land a job at the company you wanted, does that mean there are no more problems? Not at all. In life, once you get over one mountain, another one appears, right? Haha. But even so, I feel proud that a childhood dream has become reality.

I hope this course helps you plan the life you want and map out how to make that plan a reality. Thank you.
