Listening to Masterpieces: Modigliani – The Moment Love Becomes Music

Have you ever looked at a masterpiece and not known what to feel, or found art history lectures difficult and boring? This course is structured like an art drama, weaving together the lives and love of Amedeo Modigliani and Jeanne Hébuterne so that you can experience painting, music, and storytelling all at once. By following a broadcast-style storytelling script written by the instructor and listening to 10 tracks from a music album dedicated to Modigliani, you will understand the works naturally and remember them for a long time, rather than simply memorizing facts. Experience a new way of appreciating art where painting, music, and literature connect into a single story.

Experience the masterpieces you've only seen with your eyes, now through music.

    Amedeo Modigliani.

A painter remembered for portraits featuring elongated faces and necks, and mysterious gazes.

But behind his paintings, there was the life and love of a person we never truly knew.

And at the center of that story is his final love, Jeanne Hébuterne.

“Listening to Masterpieces: Modigliani – The Moment Love Becomes Music” is a storytelling lecture that unfolds the story of Modigliani and Jeanne's meeting, love, art, parting, and the aftermath of death like a piece of art drama.

I established the Korea Modigliani Institute and have been researching Modigliani's life and artistic world, introducing his art to a wider audience.

This lecture does not stop at simply explaining Modigliani's life and works.

Masterpieces, music, storytelling, and narration are connected into a single story.

In particular, 10 original music tracks produced specifically for this lecture and dedicated to Modigliani and Jeanne will play along with the appreciation of the artworks.

Step into the world of Modigliani comfortably, as if enjoying a documentary or a radio drama, through female narration and cinematic storytelling.

    In this lecture,

    • The art world of early 20th-century Paris and Montparnasse
    • Modigliani's unique portraiture and artistic language
    • The love and lives of Modigliani and Jeanne Hébuterne
    • The mutual influence of love and art on each other
    • Modigliani's final moments and Jeanne's story
    • Art and memory that continue even after death
    • Modigliani's masterpieces appreciated alongside music

    will encounter.

It is okay even if you did not major in art history.

Whether you are meeting Modigliani for the first time or already love his work, this lecture will allow you to see his paintings through a different lens than before.

    How does love become music?

We invite you to a special artistic journey that begins with that very question.
