Herdr in a Day: Multiplexer, Agent, and SSH Remote Access from Mac mini to Mobile Devices

Learn how to efficiently manage multiple AI coding agents, including Claude Code, Codex, and pi, from a single screen. Starting with tmux concepts, you’ll practice using Herdr’s sessions, panes, plugins, and CLI to build an agent workflow that keeps your work running even when your SSH connection is interrupted. Complete the essential development environment for the Agent era in just one day.

What you will gain after the course

  • Building a Workflow for Concurrently Managing Multiple AI Agents and Maintaining Sessions Using Herdr

  • Core Concepts of Terminal Multiplexers and Workspace Optimization Through Pane/Window Splitting

  • Stable execution and monitoring of long-running agent tasks in an SSH remote server environment

💡The age of agents is here! How can you leverage multiple agents and work across continuous sessions?

  • Continue developing uninterrupted agents with the multiplexer Herdr!

  • Connect to your Mac mini at home from your iPhone or MacBook and configure agents within a persistent Herdr server.

< After completing the course, you’ll be able to create projects like these >

Summon an unlimited number of agents—Claude, Codex, Pi, ...

Use multiple agents in a single terminal.
Each agent can review the others' work through the Herdr CLI.

Introduction to Herdr shortcuts, settings, and themes

Learn about all the settings Herdr offers.
We provide instructions on shortcuts, themes, and how to integrate agents.

Difficult terms, now with visual materials!

Learn the terminology used in Herdr with ease.
What are sessions, workspaces, tabs, panes, and agents?
How can you effectively build a project?

Practice directly to develop an intuition for the workspace.

Run Herdr through the terminal,
and learn by practicing each area yourself.
Implement parallel tasks by working through simple examples yourself.

💡What can you do after taking this course?

  • Even when you turn off your laptop, you can run your agents remotely.

  • Use your MacBook and iPhone to connect to a Mac mini or VPS, allowing you to develop and work even while on the go.

  • Design with Claude and implement with Codex? Herdr supports it natively!

  • Configure multiple agents to fit your own environment and projects, and give them instructions as you please.

  • You can automate all kinds of tasks. The Herdr CLI / Socket API operates through the terminal!

< By taking this course, you will learn the following. >

Use Codex, Claude, Pi, Tau... use them all together

The terminal is now your project team.

  • Start designing with Claude and Fable

  • Codex: Implement everything from start to finish with Astra

  • Pi: Evaluate what you have implemented through external models and harnesses.

Anything is fine. Set it up however you like.

You can see all of herdr's features at a glance!

Workspaces, split screens, mouse control, agent status checks, session persistence and restoration, remote access (SSH, --remote), the Herdr CLI and socket API, and even plugins!

We’ve woven all the concepts that are difficult to learn on your own into a single course. We’ll teach you everything!

We don't just talk about it. You learn by practicing hands-on.

Open the terminal yourself and split the panes yourself.

And you’ll practice orchestrating a project by calling in the Agent you want.

branch, worktree, remote access, and parallel development, too?

Try out all the tasks you want to do.

Rather than simple slides, we’ll help you understand through transcription

Simply listing terms won’t stick in your mind.

I’ll explain by directly pointing out where the session, workspace, tab, pane, and agent are located on the screen.

After watching the course, you’ll be able to immediately tell what you’re looking at when you open the terminal.

Are you curious how other people handle remote access?

Once you’re connected to a Mac mini or VPS, the agent keeps running even when you close your laptop.

We’ll connect the network with Tailscale and follow the process of connecting remotely, step by step, exactly as shown on the screen.

Even if you’re new to SSH, that’s fine. We’ll go through the process step by step, pointing out each value you need to enter.

Connect remotely yourself and work through the terminal.

In the terminal connected remotely, split the panes and perform file operations using the CLI.

I’ll record and show you everything from start to finish, demonstrating how I develop by connecting directly from my MacBook to a Mac mini.

Now just give instructions from a café, close your laptop, and let everything work automatically on your remote server.

Git branch? Worktree? How do you work in parallel?

When you run just one agent on a project, tasks line up. In herdr, we split the folders using worktrees and run the dark mode work and main work simultaneously in separate panes.

There’s no need to switch back and forth between branches and pile up stashes. We’ll cover everything hands-on, from how to split them up to when to merge them.

The left pane is on main, and the right pane is on the dark mode branch. We split the worktrees to work on both tasks simultaneously.

< A tool used by the best in the industry >

Even DHH, the creator of Ruby on Rails and Linux Omarchy, primarily uses herdr instead of tmux.

"tmux is no longer enough."

"I recently switched to Herdr.

"An agent has been added to tmux."

Hello. I run a YouTube channel called @weekendcode.

I am an instructor who strives to explain things as easily as possible for students without a computer science background and those interested in programming.

I graduated from university with a degree in computer science and earned a master’s degree in the field of human-computer interaction.

I worked as an Android developer using Java and served as a Python instructor.

Through several job changes and starting a business, I had the opportunity to share knowledge with people from non-technical backgrounds, and since then,

I am now actively working as a knowledge sharer.

Please feel free to ask questions actively about anything you don’t know.

I’ll do my best to answer.

Have a great day.
