Introduction to Game Design / Practical Game Planning Part 1
Turn ideas into development documents.

Organize vague ideas into design intent, UI/UX, and data tables
and flesh them out with system rules and flowcharts.

It doesn’t end with simply writing along with the examples.
You review even conditions, exceptions, and errors
and complete a project proposal that you can collaborate on with the development team.

Break down ideas into a list of features
and design the screen flow, table structure, and server-client roles.
You will also learn the review and collaboration processes with the release in mind.

Ideas into Documents and Rules

Section 1 - Getting Started with Game Planning

Learn about the role of a game planner and the game development process, and master the fundamentals of turning ideas into design documents needed for development. You will learn the key components of a design document and how to write documents suited to their purpose.

Section 2 - Planning Intent and Persuasion

Learn how to clearly define the intent behind a plan and establish sound rationale and justification to support the proposed features and content. Analyze real-world game examples to explore how planning intent is reflected in the game experience and design.

Section 3 - UI/UX Design

Understand the concepts of user interfaces and user experiences, and design screen structures and interactions that effectively communicate functionality and gameplay flow. Learn the characteristics of and detailed design criteria for platforms such as PC, mobile, and console.

Section 4 - Data Table Design and Review

Learn how to convert game design content into the fields and structure of data tables and design them in a reusable format. Review errors that arise during the table validation process and also cover collaboration standards between planners and developers.

Section 5 - System Planning and Implementation Workflow

Learn how to break down system features into conditions, rules, and exceptions, then organize them into flowcharts and system design documents. This course also covers how to distinguish between server and client responsibilities and plan features with consideration for the order in which they connect and are implemented.
