1) Why the network is important

  1. The lifeline of business and services

    • Email, collaboration tools, ERP/groupware, cloud, CRM, remote work, video conferencing… everything runs on the network.

    • Network quality directly translates to "work speed and customer experience."

  2. Failures lead directly to costs and a decline in trust

    • Network failures erode sales, productivity, and customer trust not only through "connection failure" but also through slowness (latency/loss/congestion).

    • Especially these days, services are distributed, so a problem in a small section can spread to the entire system.

  3. The Core Battlefield of Security

    • Attackers ultimately enter through the network and move laterally (lateral movement) within the system.

    • If network design and policies (segmentation, access control, visibility) are weak, it is easy to be breached even with security solutions in place.

  4. The 'Data Highway' of the Cloud and AI Era

    • Applications continue to be broken down (microservices), and data is constantly on the move.

    • The network is no longer just "simple connectivity" but becomes a control point for performance, security, and cost optimization.

2) Why you need to know the latest technology trends

  1. Requirements have changed, so the old design no longer fits

    • Changes like remote work/branch expansion, SaaS growth, multi-cloud, and AI/large-scale data processing are
no longer just a matter of "increasing bandwidth" like they used to be.

    • If you aren't aware of the trends, you will be slow to determine where the bottleneck is occurring (Wireless? WAN? Security appliances? DC?).

  2. Security threats continue to evolve → The network must keep up

    • The premise that "the inside is safe" has collapsed, so these days, the trend is moving toward directions such as Zero Trust, Segmentation, and SASE.

    • If you understand the trends, you can see why such a structure is necessary, rather than it just being a "fad."

  3. Operational methods are shifting from 'manual work → automation/visibility-centric'

    • As equipment, policies, and clouds become more complex, managing them solely by hand leads to
increased human error and slower incident response times.

    • That is why operational trends such as Automation (IaC/NetDevOps), Observability, and AIOps are important.

  4. To strike a balance between cost (investment) and performance

    • It's not that "the latest equipment is always the best," but rather that we need priorities that fit our environment.

    • If you know the trends, when making a decision to adopt them,

      • whether it is absolutely necessary right now

      • whether to put it on hold for now and only prepare the design

      • You can logically determine if there are alternative options.

  5. Career Competitiveness

    • Knowing the trends expands your "problem-solving scope," which increases your value in the market.

I didn't have much knowledge about networks, but it was great because you explained everything well from the beginning and helped me understand the overall flow. Thank you for the great lecture.

I am a student currently receiving network-related training. I had only heard of network virtualization and automation in passing and didn't know exactly which technologies were being used. Through this live session, it was great to learn about the specific requirements that existed, which technologies were used to solve them, and how the network landscape is evolving.

As a non-major, my head was aching, but it was a good kind of pain. To be honest, I didn't really know why I needed to learn networking, but after listening to this lecture, it really hit home—not just that "I have to learn networking," but "why this is so important." Explaining 20 years of network history—from Legacy to Converged to Virtualization to AI Automation—compressed into 50 minutes, the analogies were so intuitive that even a non-major could grasp the flow. Especially since the explanation included actual data, I could truly feel that "the industry is indeed moving in this direction." Personally, the most impressive parts were the "Python, no questions asked" advice and the talk about local LLMs. Hearing that Cisco is testing automatic router configuration generation by inputting topology and IPs, with over 90% accuracy, it was refreshing to see how deeply AI has entered the networking field. My thoughts were organized after the lecture, and I reached the conclusion that what is ultimately needed moving forward is a combination of AI + Network + Security + Programming, and that knowing these fundamentals is essential for making any kind of judgment. This lecture provided the starting point for that realization. It seems there will be two more sessions this year and an offline event as well; I am looking forward to the next lecture and the offline session to "network through networking." Thank you!

I am currently preparing to transition to an infrastructure engineer role at a later age, and your explanation of modern network configurations and infrastructure management through LLMs was very impressive. I will be looking forward to your next live session! haha
