Q. Why should I use GIMP instead of Photoshop?

If you have an environment where you can use Photoshop, you can use it as is, but for individuals or those who find licensing fees burdensome, I think GIMP, which is free, will be of great help.

Q. Is it okay for someone who already uses Photoshop to get started?

If you are an advanced user of Photoshop, you may be able to visualize how to achieve this effect in GIMP. However, the structure of important tools such as layers and movement is very different from that of Photoshop, so you may be confused.

Q. So there is no substitute for illustrator?

I used to work with Illustrator + Photoshop, but now I work with Figma + GIMP. However, since Figma is for UI design, like Adobe XD or Sketch, I recommend using Inkscape.
