I bought both the lecture and the book. It was a lecture that you can start with just the very basics of what machine learning is. I think it would be easier to understand if you majored in computer engineering, industrial engineering, statistics, or business. Both are of high quality and the Q&A was very thorough, so I am satisfied. I took the course from Chapter 1 to Text Analysis, and I plan to take the Kaggle Advanced course.
