edit_an_item함수 내부에서 scanf를 사용한후 반환값을 f로 받던대 왜 받는거죠?? f값을 따로 사용하지도 않는것 같은대??
받는이유가 있나요??

scanf는 성공적으로 입력받은 수를 반환하는데, 이를 받아주지 않으면 Warning을 띄워주기도 합니다.
아마 이 부분이 불편해서 넣으신게 아닐까 생각되네요.
강의의 코드 내에서는 생각하신대로 f를 사용하진 않으니 반드시 넣을 필요는 없습니다.
